Water & Sewage Charge In Jackson, New jersey

I wrote the attached letter to our local Asbury Park Press in Jackson New

jersey and the Jackson Times.

In the local newspapers in Jackson and Howell there have been many articles

about the outrageous water and sewer charges being imposed on some of the

residents of Howell and Jackson.

I am one of the Jackson residents that is paying astronomical charges every

quarter.

My normal bill every quarter is 167.00 for water and 273.00 for sewer

charges. I am in my house 3 years now and have been complaining since I

received my first bill. I checked with a few of my neighbors on dogwood

drive and their bills are anywhere from 100.00 to 150.00 for both.

I paid for a private plumber who specializes in leaks to come to my home

and check everything. I was told I have no leaks from the meter to my

home, nor in any pipes or toilet bowls.

I have a Pit meter and last month the township finally got tired of me

complaining and removed the old meter sent it away for testing and

installed a new meter. They got the report back on the old meter and it

stated that there was no problem with the meter.

I was told for this quarter I used 66,000 gallons of water. This is

ridiculous. In my home lives a 13 year old, 84 year old mother, and myself

55. My daughter is at school all day, I am at work and my mother is a

partial invalid. We have stopped flushing toilets and only flush once a

day or if needed. Doing laundry one day a week. I don't know what to do

anymore. I cannot afford to keep paying all this money for water and

sewer. I am a single parent and I have only one income coming in and I take

care of my invalid mother.

There has to be something wrong.

I was told by the water department last year to get a separate meter for

watering outside. I had a plumber over who told me that it would cost

700.00 and he could only install one in front of the house, not in the back

that does not include the cost of the meter from the township which is over

100.00 plus a believe a permit.

Can anyone help me straighten out this mess.
