RIPPED OFF BY Legacy Long Distance International Legacy Long Distance 10833 Valley View Street Cypress California 90630 U.S.A. 800-670-0015 I was meeting a friend for dinner at BJs (Beach location) in Huntington Beach, California, on October 30th, when I discovered my cell phone's battery was dead. I went into the restaurant to use the payphone. The coin slot was blocked on the public phone and would not accept coins, of which I had plenty. I hit "0" and charged two calls to my MC Debit Card; one to my cell phone voicemail to make sure my date hadn't called, and the other to my date. Each call lasted maybe a minute, if that long. On November 8th , I happen to check my bank statement online and saw two charges from "MC-Legacy To ########## 800-6700015 for $31.05 a piece. So I called the 800 number to see what these charges were for. The guy who answered the phone identified the company as Legacy Long Distance. Then I remembered charging the calls to my card. He told me about the extra charges for making an operator assisted call yada yada yada. I kept repeating "but $31.05 for a call that lasted less than a minute is ridiculous." He advised me to fax a copy of my statement along with a letter explaining what happened to their billing department. I asked him what city Legacy was in and he told me Cypress, California. I decided to check up on this company so I typed their name, city and state into the web browser and Rip Off Report came up first and then Complaints.com. I immediately called BJ's in Huntington Beach and told the Manager, Steven, what had happened to me in his restaurant. He was very nice and listened to my story. He said he would check into it and call me back. I wanted to believe him. I told him I was very upset and was about to go postal about this whole situation. Of course I never heard back from him. I then faxed this letter to Legacy with a copy of my statement as instructed. I then follow-up by calling and asking who had received my fax. Daly, a female in the Billing Department, told me the only way she would give me ANY information regarding my matter was to provide her with my credit card number. That just wasn't going to happen. I have filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, Federal Communications Commission, CA Department of Consumer Affairs, California Public Utilities Commission and the Los Angeles District Attorney. To date, I have only heard from the DCA, who basically told me they couldn't help me. Regina Pegues Torrance, California U.S.A. I'm Canadian, and after inputting my credit card information, the automated "person" asked me my Zip Code, being Canadian, I don't actually HAVE a Zip Code, so I pressed "0" not knowing what to do. My call NEVER got through, and I never actually spoke to my husband at all. Yet, Legacy has managed to bill me $24.92 for a call that NEVER got placed! I'll do my best to complain about this. Wish me luck! I think I'll need it! For a call less than 1 minute from Newark Airport to Nashville they charge me $16.20/= and before that the phone eats $3 of 12 Quarters and then when tried with the operator, this happens. What is the best way to solve this? Call the credit card company to cancel the transaction? Made a one minute phone call on my credit card from a pay phone at the Paris Hotel. Same deal, 12.00 for less than a minute. I nevr saw any warning that Legacy was even involved in the phone call, much less going to rip me off. My calling card charge would have been .08 cents!
