On 9/2/06 I incurred $1050.00 in damages to my new construction home walls, ceiling and hardwood floors due to the incompetence and negligence of Apartment Movers personnel. I have made repeated calls to try to handle this matter. I was told to get my own estimates because "they were too busy" to do so. On 11/2/06 I recieved a letter from Apartment Movers dated 10/9/06, denying my claim for damages and offering me a 20% discount on my next move. This is not sufficient compensation for the costs I will incur in repairing these damages, nor the hours I have spent on the phone with Apartment Movers trying to resolve this issue.

The denial letter stated the reason for the denial was "based on the contract you have signed." I did in fact sign a contract stating I had accepted delivery of my furniture. It was not until after the movers had left that I was able to assess the damages and I realized that a hole was knocked in my ceiling, gouges were made through my wall and into the sheet rock, and my hardwood floors were gouged and scraped.

I have spent several hours attempting to resolve this issue with Pete Ovella in the Houston branch, as well as Bret Meister in the Dallas branch. Pete is the employee who told me to get my own estimates because "they were busy" and also stated that Apartment Movers would report these damages to their insurance company to determine how to settle the claim. Bret didn't even pretend interest in my claim. He never returned phone calls or provided any kind of customer service.

As a side bar, aside from the damages incurred, I have had HORRIBLE customer service from Apartment Movers since day one. My move was scheduled for Friday afternoon, 9/1/06, between 1pm-5pm. I received a call at 4pm and was told the move had to be rescheduled for 7am-9am Saturday, 9/2/06, due to a medical emergency. I graciously agreed to the rescheduling of my move. When I hadn't heard from the movers by 9:30am on 9/2/06, I called to check the status of the movers. I spoke to no fewer than 4 different individuals over the course of 3 hours-- each gave me the runaround, stating they were "playing catch up." Long story short, I was finally contacted by the mover at 1:15pm and met him at my storage facility at 1:45pm. The move was finally completed at 5:45pm and in the process the young man working with the mover dropped and broke a box of dishes. I told them it was ok-- the dishes weren't expensive and I just wanted to get through with the move (I had already had to cancel plans to leave town due to the tardiness of the movers.) Later, while moving the couch into the house, the senior mover pointed out an area on the ceiling that he and his assistant had damaged during the move. I told him not to worry about it because I thought it was a scuff. I did not realize until after the movers had left that they had in fact punched a hole through the ceiling.

At no time has any employee of Apartment Movers asked for copies of the photos I have taken of the damages or offered to send their own crew out to evaluate the damages incurred. This just serves to reinforce the fact that Apartment Movers has never at any time intended to do the right thing and pay for the damages I have incurred as a result of their incompetence and negligence. If this is the way Apartment Movers does business, the public needs to be made aware so that they can make an informed choice NOT to use them for their next move. I have made my ill treatment by Apartment Movers a personal crusade and I will not stop reporting their shoddy business practices on every website I can locate, and telling my story to anyone who will listen. They either need to change the way they do business or BE OUT OF BUSINESS!!

I will get my $1050.00 in damages out of Apartment Movers one way or another-- they can either pay me with a check or I will pay them in negative publicity for the rest of my life (and I intend to live a VERY LONG TIME).

Sincerely,

T Fleck

I also used Apartment Movers in Houston and was disgusted to say the least. I was told on the phone that they would move any amount of boxes for a set price even though they have a policy of only 20 boxes for the price they gave me. My first mistake was not getting them to fax that over in writing. On the day of the move the movers refused to move more than 20. When I called to check my order, a man name John read the policy to me about the 20 boxes. When I asked him to look up the person who made my order so we could contact her, he said he didn't know who made the order. I then had to remind him the company keeps track of who makes what orders. He still refused to look that up saying it wasn't on my contract. I ended up haveing to move my own boxes. When I called to make a formal complaint the same guy answered and wouldn't let me talk to a manager until he asked me a round of questions. I had to ask him five times to speak to a manager. By this time I had already moved myself, I only had a short amount of time to move.

A month later, I'm moving my furniture out of the storage unit into my new house and my table leg is broken. I'm not going to call I don't want to deal with them, they have already proven to me that they are unprofessional and inept at what they do.
