Two days ago we purchased a Sharp air conditioner from the above store. They only had a display model of the one we wanted, so we bought it. We came home and my husband followed the instructions to pull the chassis out of the case. It would hardly budge but he finally got it to pull out. When he did, gas (freon?) started spraying through the air from the coil and our living room was full of haze from this irritant. He immediately took the unit outside and we both breathed our share of it. We put fans in the house to disperse the cloud of freon or whatever it is in the unit they use now. Next day we contacted Rex to advise them we would like to bring the air conditioner back. They said no. They do not take returns. They said the air conditioner was fine when we left the store. They said we would have to have it repaired. We told them we didn't want to have this defective unit repaired, we wanted to get a different air conditioner. Too bad. They put us in touch with a service person 40 miles away who has yet to return our calls. I finally called Sharp and they are going to send a repairman on June 6th. Meanwhile, it's in the 80's; we have no air conditioner; and I am just recovering from breast cancer/chemotherapy. My husband is in remission from cancer (lymphoma). If we had bought an air conditioner at Lowe's or Sears or even Wal-Mart, they would have gladly given us a new item. I have tried to call the Corporate office of Rex, but I can only get voice mail and they have not returned my calls. Please don't think of buying from Rex. I have bought other items there with no problems, but I see now that if you get a defective item, you can't immediately return it. You are stuck with it and you have the problem of trying to find someone come to repair it. If you absolutely have to buy from Rex, ask them first whether when you get the item home, if it's defective, are they going to take it back and give you a replacement item. They will say no. Be very careful. This has been a very aggravating experiencing and meanwhile, we are here in the heat. Jill & Dave
