Maytag AC - Warranty is Useless

Maytag AC - Warranty is Useless Maytag AC with in home 5 year warranty purchased at Home Deport. Purchased a 18,000 BTU window air conditioner at Home Depot in West Windsor, NJ, on 7/5/2005. First time I tried to use it this year it blew up. Should not be a problem because the unit came with a FREE in-Home Services for 5 years warranty. Only it is useless, the service provider (the only service provider) in this area does not come to Trenton, NJ - which is where I live. I've been calling and calling customer service at both Home Depot and Maytag trying to get some help. No luck. Maytag is telling me that they have to e-mail a supervisor and wait for a reply to see if they can find another service provider that I can use - they should be able to get back to me in about a Week. A week to find the name of a service provider??? How crazy is that. Tried several times to speak to a supervisor, but they are either not available, or will not return my calls. I am beginning to think that the warrranty that came with the air conditioner is just a sham. I think that if they stall me long enough, I will give up. Sad thing is that they may be right. This is just so frustrating. and with the current heat wave - I probably will just go and purchase a replacement.
