Company: Worst Service at Silkway Travel Agency

Category: Other

Silkway Travel is located in Crystal Mall in Burnaby B.C. Canada. It promises the cheapest tickets in town; however, the cheap tickets come with 1) bad service, 2) long waits, and 3) incompetent workers all of which will end up costing the consumers twice the money because of their mistakes. I bought a return-trip transfer flight ticket from them in April 2006 because I thought the ticket was cheap. But the salesperson there did not inform me that I can’t actually buy the transfer flight tickets if I don’t have a Canadian passport. She sold me the ticket without even asking me if I have my Cnd passport or not. I had always just used my Taiwanese passport and my Canadian citizenship card to travel to Taiwan. It had been fine for the previous years when I travelled in and out of Canada. But this time, I decided to take the transfer flight to save me some money. Little did I know that it would end up costing me so much more. While I was at the airport checking in to fly back to Vancouver via Hong Kong, I was notified that I was NOT allowed on the plane without a Canadian passport even though I had my Canadian citizenship card. They said that I couldn’t transfer flight from Hong Kong with just my citizenship card, but I can buy another direct flight ticket and then I would be fine. As a result of that, I had to buy another direct flight ticket to get back into Vancouver. This is totally bullshit how the travelling agency did not tell me of this. I even called them to complain and ask for a refund. And they DIDN'T even know about this regulation that you can’t transfer flight in Hong Kong with just your Canadian Citizenship card. They were totally incompetent and uninformed, and they just want to sell you the tickets and get you out of their way. There is no after-sale customer service at all. They assume no responsibility even though it was partially their fault. ALL in all, I had to pay double the amount advertised. At other travel agencies, they would at least have the decency to ask what kind of travelling documents I had just in case situation like this happens. But Silkway did not do so, and they didn’t even bother to apologize or try to solve this problem for me. I was stuck like a sucker with the bill for the tickets, and left feeling embarrassed at an International airport being looked at like an idiot all because they did not do their job. I ALWAYS travel with my passport, and cannot imagine taking a flight without a Canadian passport and simply bringing my Canadian citizenship card. If you are a canadian citizen, why don't you bring your Canadian passport with you when you travel?

I agree with you that their services are bad. They just want to sell the tickets ASAP. They should remind you that a Cdn passport is compulsory.

Yes, I agree but not in terms of service. It's even worse. We joined the 15-day 10 countries Europe tour. We paid double than the locals and other countries did. We were promised with at least 3-star hotels but put in farm-base or 2-star motels. We stayed 5 nights in the same company hotels where we didn't get hot water for shower for 2 days, and the power went off due to electric problem at one night. The worst part was the girl there didn't have the clue how to switch it off, and we, guests, had to figure out to turn the power back on. Anyway, we were ripped off, and cheated by the Silkway Travel Management. We have asked for partial refunds but got denied by the managers.
