On Friday at around 2 pm I called U-Haul to reserve a 17’ truck, for the next day at 8am. Next day when I went to the u-haul location the general manager of the location told me they have no information about my reservation and they had no 17’ trucks available. With no apology or any hint of customer care. I am glad I had my reservation number to prove I had a reservation with them. The person dealing with me was already pissed at me at this point – I don’t know why. When she punched in the reservation number she told me that my reservation was for Friday 8am. I told her clearly this was their mistake, why would I call on Friday 3pm to make a reservation for Friday 8am. Anyway, I am lucky that they had a 14’ truck. I took that one instead. The real problem happened when I returned the truck. I used the truck for 20 miles and bought more than 3 gallons of gas, which must be more than enough. Well the person who was dealing with the return, the same general manager, didn’t think so. She checked the truck while I was waiting. Then without saying anything to me, she charged me an extra $50, claiming I didn’t return the truck with enough gas. I called U-haul headquarters several times after this. The person who was supposed to deal with this was for some reason always at vacation or I could never talk to him. Someone else had to take notes and relay the information. At the end what they do is write down the complaint and send it to the General Manager of the location, which of course didn’t resolve anything. I am not even sure if they have followed up on it…

The previous time I rented from them, the foot brake got loose when we were unloading. The truck crashed into another car, and I had to pay that through my insurance.

I cannot understand how u-haul can provide such poor service and quality, but they can still get away with this. I will never rent from u-haul again.
