I am a 64 year old, single woman who had to retire on disability after working for 45 years due to numerous health problems. I was also kidnapped, held for ten hours during which time I was raped and tortured. I have had to have nine major surgeries as a result of this attack and also suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Recently I suffered two massive heart attacks. At the time I became disabled, I was earning a considerable amount of money and was always prompt in paying my bills. Since then, I net $1,097 a month, from which I have to pay $440.06 mortgage payment and most of the remainder of my income for medical expenses, utilities, and insurance on my property and 11 year old automobile. I owed Citibank $10,000+ and begged them to let me pay what was left each month, at least $20.00 a month. I explained my circumstances to them at that time. I didn't hear from them, and upon checking with the three credit rating companies, I discovered that they had charged the total off as a loss. I assumed that they were going to write this amount off their taxes, so I thanked God for huge miracles and forgot about the bill. One year later, after the bankruptcy laws changed, I might mention, Citibank turned my account over to Academy Collection Service for collection and that's when my life became a living HELL. For the past several months, I have been barraged with the most insulting, harassing calls six days a week, from 8:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m., up to six calls on some days. They have accused me of everything imaginable, from being a liar, to a deadbeat, to crazy. I have recorded each call and the date and time. I today sent a registered letter to both companies requesting them to cease and desist. My next stop is seeking a lawyer who will handle my case Pro Bono, or on a contingency basis. My health will not take much of this.
