This complaint is regarding Jerry's Towing and Auto Repair: Jerry's Towing, General Manager Eric O'Connor 91 Powerhouse Road Roslyn Heights, New York 11577 516-621-6024 On May 23, 2006, I called AAA to have my car towed to a Meineke repair center. They sent over a man named Mike (he wouldn’t give me his last name) from Jerry's Towing and Auto Repair. I gave him my car keys and after he saw that it wouldn’t start, he asked me what was wrong with it. I told him that I didn’t know, and that Meineke would fix it. He then attempted to pressure me into having my car repaired at Jerry’s rather than Meineke and I repeatedly refused because I only use Meineke. He quickly became verbally abusive, calling me obscene names. When I asked him why he would treat me in such a disrespectful manner when I had simply asked him to tow my car to Meineke, which is what AAA was paying him to do, he began to ignore me. I told him that calling his customers names for no reason other than their asking him to do his job said more about him than it did about me, since he had called me the b word, among other things. I asked him for an apology and said that if he would take back the rude things that he had said, I would not file a complaint. He continued to ignore me and began to roughly handle my car as he hooked it up to the tow truck. Since he was towing my car from my work’s parking lot, I turned to go back to my building, at which point he told me to get into his tow truck. I then became worried about my safety and said that I would not get in the car with him for the ride to Meineke, at which point he threatened to leave my car “in the middle of the road” if I did not get in his truck. I immediately called the manager, Eric O'Connor, who told me that I should not get in the towing truck with Mike, that Mike will return my car to where he had begun to tow it from, and that I should call AAA and ask them to send for a different towing company. Rather than park my vehicle in the parking lot that he had taken it from, Mike parked it directly in front of a stop sign, which is illegal and could have gotten me a parking ticket. It took another four hours for AAA to find another towing company because, unfortunately, Jerry's Towing is the main service provider for AAA in area. The man from the other towing company, who towed my car without any problems and even gave me a ride back to my house, said that he had heard a lot of bad things and complaints about Jerry's Towing and Auto Repair. He said that he would also file a complaint to AAA about the way that they had treated me, because they had obviously been out of line. When AAA called Jerry’s to ask them about the incident, both Mike and the manager, Eric O'Connor, made up a false version of what had happened, denying that Mike had done anything wrong. They claimed that I had called HIM names and had refused to give him my car keys (I had given him my keys as soon as he asked for them). They also denied Mike’s parking my car in an illegal spot, claiming that he had returned it to the parking lot and that he had threatened leaving my car in the middle of the street if I did not ride with him to Meineke. I strongly advise you to avoid Jerry’s Towing and Auto Repair AT ALL COSTS, they are contentious, deceitful, disrespectful and abusive to their customers.
