August 2001: I went to trade my vehicle in for a 1997 BMW 328is at Corvette City. However, since my current vehicle was still under a lease, Corvette City decided to do me a "favor" and get me out of it. Their plan was to continue making my payments that were remaining on my lease I traded in and I could buy the BMW. So I put $1,000 down and signed a 5 year lease with payments of almost $500 month and an option to buy of $9,000. No warranty either. This car was already 4 years old. Since I kept getting late notices from the vehicle I traded in, I called them to remind them to either send in payments or return the vehicle. After about 3 months of this, I decided to drive back to Corvette City to see what the problem was. I found that not only were they driving my trade in, but they were using it as a work truck. I could see damage in the back from hauling stuff. They also put their dealer tag on the back. After they ruined my credit with their "plan" of paying or returning the vehicle, they finally returned the car to the dealership.
MOST EXPENSIVE LESSON: DON'T TRUST THESE PEOPLE.
May 2006, I am trying to buy a car with a reputable dealership. Hopefully they can straighten this mess out, since I still have the responsibility of paying for it. I am also wondering if my contract is even valid at this point, since I am getting two different payoff amounts. And I am not paying $9,000 for the car since it is not even worth that now.
