Chase Bank One Payment Protector

This is being posted as witness and warning to others:

Several months ago we received a call from what was identified as Chase Bank attempting to sell us on a payment protection plan (the Chase One account we have is in my wife's name). We flatly declined the offer. Then a couple of months later we notice that our account is being charged $67 per month for this "service"!!!!!!!!! When my wife called Chase One, she was told that this was not a part of their banking system, but an independent business and told us to contact them. At this point I (the husband) took over the issue. I called "Payment Protector" and explained that we never authorized the service, I wanted it cancelled immediately and I wanted a full refund. All the woman would tell me was that the service would be cancelled per my request but it would take "one or two billing cycles" to do this. She repeated that this was "all she was authorized to do".

Then we received in the mail yesterday a form letter telling us we will no longer be charged for the service but we may see a "final charge" on our account if the cancellation fell during a billing cycle. Absolutely no mention of refunding us the money they took from our account!!!!!!!!

I found another posting to this website from a young woman named Jeniffer back on August 26, 2005. Clearly we are not the only people being victimized by this scam. I have written them a letter demaning a prompt and full refund, and if it is not recorded within 15 days we will take court action against them.

This seems to be business as usual with Chase! Last year, my wife transferred the balance of another credit card to Chase and at the time, the representative offered the plan to her. She refused the plan and told him that we do not sign up for these. He proceeded to explain the plan and kept on and on. She again refused the plan. He still would not take no as an answer. This conversation went on for over 6 minutes and she told him a third time we were not interested. He said he would send the paperwork on the transfer of the balance and she said that was fine. This type of harassment is unacceptable. We have filed a dispute but the payment protector plan refused a refund and we were told to dispute this with Chase Dispute Department. We sent a certified letter to Chase and contacted them a couple of weeks later and were told that this had been resolved and we would receive a full refund; interest included but it would take 30 - 60 days for the refund to show up on our statement. I contacted Chase to find out what our balance was and was informed that there was no record of a refund that this was a third party issue but when I talked to the payment protector department, I was told Chase would have to address the refund. I have again been on the phone today and am at my wits end. This is a practice that needs to be investigated and should not be allowed to happen. If any one has any suggestions please let us in on the secret.
