I am writing to inform your viewers of Toshiba's indifferent attitude to the warranty on their computers.

My Toshiba Satellite notebook computer developed a problem while still under warranty. After speaking to their phone support center, I sent the computer to their authorized support center in Portland OR. After a week, I was told by the technician that a part has been ordered, but will not arrive for another month, and that was not a certainty. When told that I cannot be without my computer for a month, he referred me to Toshiba's customer service line 1-800-457-7777, and gave me the part order number 0096607KW to see if they will expedite the order. After half an hour on the phone I was routed to the Case Manager, Kim. She told me there was nothing she could do about the part on order, and bounced me back to the Portland support center. And that was that.

I think potential Toshiba computer buyers should be aware of the treatment they can expect if their computer develops a problem within the warranty period.

I bought the one-year extended warranty directly from Toshiba for $89. With about 7 weeks to go before it expired the AC adaptor failed. They gave me one version of their refusal to honor the warranty after another, refused to send me a copy of the warranty, and the local "authorized service provider" told me they would sell me an adaptor for $86+!

I hope to find the time to file a breach of contract lawsuit to recover the $89 for HOT AIR!


I WILL NEVER, EVER AGAIN BUY A TOSHIBA PRODUCT. AS A MATTER OF FACT I HOPE I CAN AVOID ALL JAPANESE ELECTRONICS SINCE CREATIVE PULLED THE SAME SCAM WITH REGARD TO THE "WARRANTY" FOR ITS ZEN MP3 PLAYER.
