homesafe security systems Homesafe Security systems, Inc www.HomesafeSecurity.com 124 Lakefront Drive, Hunt Valley, MD 221030 We bought a new home in July 2002 and the builder , Powers Homes, had arranged for Homesafe to be the security system provider for the residences. We signed up for their services and recently when we sold our home, I contacted Homesafe to cancel their services. I was informed that we had a self renewing contract and that we were obligated to pay off the balance due which was $656.05. The only way we could avoid this charge was if the new owner subscribed to their services. We find this to be extremely deceptive as it was not discussed at the time of signing the contract and we never received any notification of renewal. There may have been something in the very fine print, however, when I mentioned this arrangement to our neighbors, none of them were aware of this commitment. We have used other security systems and have never incurred this problem. We notified Homesafe and they emailed us a form which we mailed in. We then get a call that they did not receive the form within a 30 day window of our contract renewing and that our contract was "self-renewing" and they would hold us liable for an additional 2 years. When we informed Homesafe of the laws protecting active duty service members, their response was that they would "go after" us whenever my husband left active duty service. When I pointed out how ridiculous that was, how would they know when and if he ever left active duty and how would they even know where we lived, NANCY told me that they have ways of finding out. We also NEVER signed a contract that said anything would "automatically" renew. This is very troublesome that this company would go after consumers this way. We have filed a complaint with the Maryland Attorney General's office as well as the BBB.
