Centurytel: Customers Not Notifed re: DSL Upgrade Centurytel upgraded DSL service in our area (Collegedale, TN) without advising me of the change. For several years, I have been on their 512K residential plan which cost $49.99/month. I have no problems with the service per se; however, Centurytel discontinued offering this plan when they upgraded it to1.5M and reduced the monthly cost to $39.99/month. There was no notification given about this change. Simply put, I have been online since that date at appx. one third the available speed while paying $10/month more than I should have been charged. Today, when I called their service department I confirmed the above and scheduled the upgrade. Their representative (who was very nice) stated that Centurytel was not obligated to advise customers of the change and would not automatically make the upgrade, even though the 512K was no longer an option.
To those who read this, I did think of alternatives (cable, satellite); however, both have service outages or non-optimal signal strength in this area more frequently than Centurytel (though I do like their speed/price options).
