MDG Computers

MDG Computers I went to Stapes to purchase a MDG computer which was advertised in the London Free Press on Thursday for $597. The ad did not state what operating system was on this computer. I phoned MDG's 800 number and was told that it came with Windows XP and Microsoft Works Suite. Upon arrival at the store, the salesperson did not have one of these sale units on display and could not access the ad through the website. She then indicated that the unit had no operating system nor any Microsoft Works Suite. The ad also indicated that there was a free upgrade to a 19" flat monitor. She also indicated that this was not the case. What she did say was that she could put together a "customized" package that would suit my needs. This is the old "bait and switch" technique used by scam artists and, on a regular basis, MDG. This is the second time I’ve been to MDG to inquire/purchase a computer that was advertised in the paper only to be told that the unit in question was not available, but, that they could “customize” a package specific to my needs, but, at a higher price. I wonder how many people have been duped by this technique into buying more expensive equipment. I’ve included the ad from the LFP. As you can see, I’ve written Windows XP and Works Suite on the ad. I did so when in conversation with the person at 1-800-499-9131. <<...>> .
