Washington Mutual Loan Department

Washington Mutual Loan Department

I’m just going to start with the simple fact that Washington Mutual is a terrible company. I had a mortgage loan through Washington Mutual. There was never once I was late on my home mortgage.

Washington Mutual would charge me $392.00 a month to put in a reserve fund for my taxes. In 2004, Washington Mutual on paid about $132.00 in taxes. I received notices in March of 2005 from the County Tax department informing me that I needed to pay back taxes of $1,679.83 and $123.86 which required two installments in June of 2005 and August of 2005. I contacted Washington Mutual and informed them of the taxes and both installments that needed to get paid. A Washington Mutual customer service representative informed me to fax the paperwork to there tax branch and they would pay both installments. I faxed the paperwork in April of 2005 and in May of 2005. I called Washington Mutual on numerous occasions asking them to pay the back taxes, which each representative informed me that it was getting paid.

I learned in February of 2006, that Washington Mutual paid the first installment towards the taxes but not the second. I contacted Washington Mutual and asked them to pay the taxes. The representative stated they would pay the second installment and I would not be responsible for the late charges on the taxes of $279.86 and $23.00, and because Washington Mutual didn’t pay they would incur the penalties. Well I called to check on the payment of the taxes and I dealt with rude and inconsiderate representatives. I refinanced on my loan and when I closed on the loan I had to pay the back taxes plus penalties. I also had to pay to Washington Mutual 573.00 because they claimed that they had paid the back taxes. I found out that Washington Mutual had sent $1832.79 as payment to the county tax which I was also charged for the penalties and they missed the $123.86 payment. The amount they sent was for the wrong amount and was returned by the County tax department.

I called Washington Mutual and spoke with about 10 customer service agents and three supervisors regarding the refund of the $1832.79, plus payment of the penalty charges I had to incur because Washington Mutual did not pay the back taxes on time and never informed me that they would not pay it. Each representative and one supervisor informed me that they would put in a request for investigation or simply the money was theirs and would not be returned. I was hung up on and was treated on more then one occasion in a rude and inappropriate manner and this was coming from mainly the supervisors. After three months of arguing with Washington Mutual and being given the run around, they agreed to refund the $1832.79 back to me, which was my money to begin with. But Washington Mutual refused to pay me back for the penalties I had to incur because they did not pay my taxes on time and because there representatives did not document my requests properly.

I was even told by a supervisor that even though I put in the request to pay the taxes, it is my responsibility to make Washington Mutual pay it and since I failed to do this I am responsible for the penalties I incurred. I do not know where Washington Mutual comes up with this load of poop. If they had to incur penalties due to a late payment because of me, I would have to pay the bank back with interest.

I recommend to all if you bank with Washington Mutual switch now and if you have a loan from them run. They will treat you rudely, dishonestly, and then will blame you for their mistakes.
