Maytag Dishwasher Model MDB6650AWS

I own a Maytag, top of the line Dishwasher, Model MDB6650AWS, purchased 5/18/01.

This dishwasher is Stainless Steel, inside and out. It was extremely expensive.

The stainless steel front panel is rusted very badly!!! Where the control panel meets the stainless, is rusted completely across the entire width of the control panel and there are also small rust spots all over the entire front of the unit. It has been rusted for a while, so yesterday I decided to write to Maytag.

Unfortunately, I did not remember the purchase date or I would have acted much sooner, since I noticed this rust at least 6 months ago. I had to check with Maytag for my purchase date. They got back to me today to tell me that my purchase date was 5/18/01, the warranty for rust was for 5 years and my warranty had just run out May 18th (2 mos. ago). The only thing they would be willing to do, is offer me the part at 50% off and that I needed to act quickly because the offer is only good for one month !!!!!

I realize I should have acted sooner, but it almost seems that the "rust" issue is timed exactly to when most rust begins???!!!

I thought stainless steel did not rust???? !!!! Did they use inferior quality stainless steel?

In the past I owned a dishwasher for over 12 years and it never rusted!

I am very unhappy and disappointed with this product and wondering if anyone out there has any info on how to get them to cover this issue for free.

Another interesting fact, is that I spoke to a supervisor named Patricia, and If I wanted to call her back, I could not reach her. I asked for her supervisor...I was told that the supervisors over her were not for customers only for other supervisors. I was NOT able to speak to anyone above her. I asked for the name of the president of the company... I was told, she didn't know that info. But I could write to the Director of Customer Service if I wished.

Please help me if you can.

The sanitize, light wash, normal wash and clean buttons are flashing and the dishwasher won't do anything.
