Time Warner Service - collections

Time Warner Cable turned me over to a collection bureau for equipment that I had returned to them. After numerous phone calls to Time Warner, where the collections supervisor would always promise to call me back and never would, I finally was able to get someone to confirm that they had the equipment & would clear the matter up with CMI Group LP. A week later I received another notice from CMI Group, so I called them and they confirmed that Time Warner had reported that I did not owe this debt. HOWEVER - there is still a $14 balance showing on my credit report from them. This is absurd and I have no way to get it removed. I have disputed it but since my original dispute only resulted in Time Warner being lazy and not researching & they verified I did owe the debt, which was inaccurate, now Experian won't update my report showing that I do not. I'm at a loss of what to do - but would really like that off my report since I never owed it to start with.

I had a similar problem - they claimed I had unreturned equipment when it was a data entry error on their part. It was very difficult to get anyone on the phone to help me. What I ended up doing was going in person to the Time Warner Office in my neighborhood 900 Cahuenga Ave, Los Angeles. There I spoke to a reasonable human being, manager Joseph Burch, who even gave me his direct line in case the creditors kept bothering me. And they did keep bothering me. So I called the manager back and he helped me by calling the Collections Department. Finally someone from the Collections Department at Time WArner (Monica Gayton) finally called me back and said the issue had been resolved and the had submitted a withdrawal request. I called NCO Financial (the creditor) and they confirmed that my account was closed. So we shall see. I think all in all this probably took about 10 hours away from my life... and through no fault of my own.

In September of 2007, I notified Time Warner by telephone that I would like to cancel my digital cable service. An authorized technician came to my home to disconnect the service and also work on my internet service. (Please note that I was informed that your computer records reflect there was a technician in my home on this date!) While he was in my home he picked up the DVR cable box to return to Time Warner; however, he failed to pick up the additional cable box we had in the bedroom. In May of 2009, I disconnected service with Time Warner and returned the cable box along with the modem for the internet service and was informed TWO YEARS after the fact that I had an outstanding DVR box that had not been returned when the cable service was cancelled. Time Warner Cable states on their franchising authority page that if you “fail to return it to us upon termination of you service, you will be charged the amount necessary to repair or replace the equipment. We will return to you any credit due you within thirty (30) days of our receipt of the equipment.” Again, almost TWO YEARS had passed and I was NEVER informed that this box was not in the possession of Time Warner and my bills from the company from September of 2007 through the disconnection of my internet service in April of 2009 DO NOT reflect any charges or notifications that the box was outstanding. I have since made five phone calls and not one call back. The customer service is HORRIBLE and the representative told me to look in MY records to see if I could find the work order that was two years old, which verified the technician took the box. Unfortunately, I do not have a very old work order and suggested they should look in their records to find the order. 2 months later and they still have not located the work order. I have sent a letter to the corporate offices and also filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. I think Time Warner is participating in customer fraud and if they do not resolve the issue soon I will soon move to the Attorney General's office.

I have had similar experiences, yes, now 2 separate accounts. I live in an area where TWC has a monopoly on the service areas and was forced to use them for service in two locations. the first time and second, i moved away and used a tenant take over form to transfer acct to new tenants. in both cases, TWC failed numerous times to send the form and after multiple re-issuing I sent in via email, fax and mail...yet they claimed they didn't receive only after I got calls from a collection agency for a debt. twice now they have tried to stick me with charges for service on an account where I no longer live. the first time took 1 YEAR to fight and they finally cleared it up. Now it is happening again. 18mo after I have moved, they sent me to collections for an outstanding balance from only 7 months ago...somehow my name is still on this account 18mo later, and at least 6 forms later.

they are the most incompetent company I have ever dealt with and I am so absolutely sick of their harassment. If they report on my credit, I will take legal action and i have very accurate records to nail their butts. not to mention the poor service, horrible customer service and ridiculous automated system that seems to always be "down" or reports multiple service areas that are down.

I am going through a very similar issue with Time Warner Cable. The difference is we moved to an area of the US that does not get serviced by Time Warner Cable. I turned all of our equipment in to the Time Warner office and got a receipt for it. Apparently the receipt doesn't matter. Time Warner has been trying to collect +$300 from me for equipment they say I did not return. Every communication with a customer service rep ends with me being in the clear. Yet weeks or months later I get another notice from another collection agency for the same +$300. This is pure harassment and I plan to file suit against Time Warner Cable in Western Ohio.

I just had a similar experience. When I moved, Time Warner told me that I could give my old equiptment to their technician when he came to set up my new service. Luckily, he wrote on the service invoice that he took it because Time Warner sent me to collections. They were incredibly lazy and incompetent, losing my faxes FIVE TIMES and giving me the run around like crazy. I managed to get the name and direct number for one of the managers and and wouldn't stop leaving messages until they removed the balance and contacted the collection agency. My best advice is to save every receipt, coorespondance, anything then to keep hounding them. Once you call, there are people in the office that CAN help you, they are just banking on the hope that you will get frustrated and give up.
