Construction and remodeling Paradise, Michigan Shelldrake Shores Construction was contracted to build a house for a relative in Paradise, Michigan. There are two issues which consumers should be aware of before contracting with this company. First, is the basic honesty of the owner. A local account was set up for him to buy materials for the house. He would draw on this account as needed. The withdrawals seemed high, and when receipts of the purchases were examined, it showed that in addition to material he had purchased power tools. A closer examination of the construction material also revealed the purchase of a garage door. The house has no garage! By this time the house was essentially completed, and the agreement with him was terminated. It did not take long for the second issue to arise. His work is lousy. The house leaked water like a sieve. If you have not experienced winters on the Upper Peninsula then you may not realize that a house that leaks air, much less water, is dangerous. Thousands of dollars have been spent to completely rebuild the back end of the house and deck, and to caulk all the openings. To those of you who wonder why he has not been taken to court: Paradise is essentially in the middle of nowhere. The time, trouble and expense of getting an attorney and hauling him into a court tens of miles away is simply too much. The loss has been written off as the cost of an education. Perhaps this will save you from the same situation.
