GE 50 gallon hot water heater, 2 mornings in a row there was lack of hot water for showers. The temp. was 80-90 degrees, usually it is in the 100-120 range. The unit is warranted for 12 years, so the call went out to GE tech support. I was told to take a water temperature sample from the pressure relief valve 1 hour after the burner shut off. I did this 4 days in a row, 2 days the temp was fine, the 3rd and 4th days it was low.
The second call to GE support I was told to shut off the cold water supply, wait 1 hour then turn it back on and take sample. Now the insulation on this water heater is R19 so how much will it come down in an hour anyway. It seems like GE is not willing to back up the warranty and wants us to take lukewarm showers. I don't know how this will help consumers recommending thier products to friends and family.
I ran into a similar problem with my GE advantium microwave, 3 weeks out of warranty it failed, it took several calls and over an hour on the phone to send a part, which by the way costs $14.00. My time is valuable and it would be cheaper just to buy it yourself, it seems that this is just waht GE wants us to do.
