D-Link VPN router: DI-804HV / tech-support, RMA dept.

I purchased a D-Link VPN broadband router over a year ago from a

computer store local to my place of work. The unit worked fine right up

until performing a *recommended* firmware update..

I had performed one on it before following the instructions on their

support website. This time, I followed the directions exactly as

specified, and the device ceased to communicate to any attached computer

or the outside world.

Tech support first agreed that the device should be returned and

generated a case number for me. But upon realizing that the website

demands you show proof of purchase which in turn proves that the device

was within one year warranty, everything fell apart -- Remember, I

performed a manufacturer requested (D-Link) firmware upgrade.. One

would think that a firmware upgrade trumps the one year limited

warranty, since it is often required to keep a hardware device current

with OS and other standards of the equipment you are connecting to.

NO DICE.

D-Link makes no exclusion for one of their firmware updates going sour.

I get to throw it in the trash because they refuse to exchange or

service it in any way.
