My wife and I purchased a secretary desk from Walter E. Smithe in Orland Park. The piece was the right price and fit our dimensions. We purchased the piece for cash. In doing so, you receive a 10% discount. What a deal! Unfortunately it was not. Beware of the return policy. You are unable to get a full refund!!! You end up having to pick something of equal or GREATER value, usually the latter. The desk began to crack two weeks after receiving it. A repair person looked at it, took pictures and informed us that we will be contacted about a replacement. However, there were no real replacements due to the fact that all the pieces, and I quote, “Had the same (flawed) characteristics.” Another one was brought to our house, but the delivery men wouldn’t even take it off the truck because it was in worse condition than the original. In turn I asked for a refund. However, the store was sticking to their policy. Walter E Smithe sells defective furniture and will not refund your money. They trap you into buying something for money, which we ended up doing just to end the situation. We wish we would have visited this site sooner. Do yourself a favor, go somewhere else for furniture.
