reunion.com scam

Reunion.com is a SCAM! You can join for free but need to pay to view information but what is worse is they scam you to believe there is information on your friend's site by having links next to everything. If you click on the link it tells you that you must join and pay $36.00 to be able to view the information. I was a sucker and did join because I thought I finally had connected with someone only to find out after I paid, all the links were gone and there was absolutely no information on that person. They even go as far as having the person's site show that they have contacted someone, again making it appear active, only to find out the contact is "Jeffrey", the owner of reunion.com and he puts himself there as a contact. I tried to see if I could cancel and get a refund and the policy says no. Do not waste your money on Reunion.com. a true scam.

I have basically the same problam. But my biggest complaint is they don't willingly tell you that they can charge you again on your same credit card that you used the first time, without having to ask or tell you first. And after they do this they tell you that you have to call them to unsubscribe in a certain time frame.Since then I see they have a non-renewal button but you have to know it is there to be able to find it.I ran across it by accident. They also e-mail you to tell you that there is new info on someone you were looking for or tell you that someone visited your profile, only to find that it is the same thing they contacted you about the last time and the time before that and so on and so on.

Reunion.com changed their name to http://www.mylife.com/ - now it's just a people search type of site that you pay for.

I used Reunion Manager because of the scams reunion.com ran.

There is a 1 time set up fee (lifetime actually) and only the person that creates the reunion account pays for it.

People can register for their reunions and it doesn't cost them a dime.

It's a great service and the online yearbook never expires or are there any additional cost to keep it online over the years.

it's located here http://reunionmanager.net

You will be very lucky if you get a refund. What you need to watch out for is that they will renew your subscription AUTOMATICALLY every year. You have to search there site very carefully to find the place where you can turn off this automatic renewal. I just got a $60 charge on my credit card today. Tomorrow I will have to call my credit card company. But I'm not sure if it will do any good.

Have you heard anything about USA Reunited.com? I have a feeling they are a scam too. They send me the full names of people I graduated with, like Joe Smith, and say they have sent me a comment or message. But then you have to pay for one year to get to the comment. I haven't subscribed because it seems weird. However, the names they send are actually people who probably would send me a message. I don't trust much on the Net anymore. And Pay Pal's integrity is questionable as well.

Thank you for your time.

Pam

I have filed a complaint with the FCC. I don't know how this outfit accessed my address book, but I was recently "asked" about contacting an individual that I affirmatively cut oof relations with. I am disturbed to think that he was contacted by reunion and asked about me, as I do not want him to think I am contacting him. I feel as if my privacy has been invaded.

I have had the same thing happen to me. Complain to paypal. I am starting to question paypal business practices. They seem to be well informed of reunion.coms shady practices and ok with it . I guess paypal is NOT on the side of the consumer. Lets work together on putting and end to this stuff.

They tried the same thing on me saying that a friend of mine of 55+ years (Geeze he's old) had invited me to join. Then a question "Do you know Henry?", Then two links to follow. One Yes and one No. I suspect this is were they try to enrolment (I didn't bite). The question they asked gave me pause, because, had Henry sent the email, why would he ask me if I knew him? I'm pretty sure the FCC can so something about it (unlawful entry or the cyber version of such). I've notified them of a bank scam in the past.

I agree 100%. This company is shady. What gives them the right to USE YOUR PERSONAL CONTACTS to try and register these people to their website WITHOUT YOUR PERMISSION??? This company should be shut down and slapped with a privacy lawsuit. Unbelievable what's going on to get money these days.

Reunion.com IS A HORRIBLE COMPANY.

This site should be stopped. If you send a response, they have a way of accessing your address database and sending to EVERYONE in it a message saying that you are trying to connect with them thru the website. There has to be an agency we can complain to about this invasion of privacy.

AGREED!~ I paid that stupid 36.00 once last month, trying to find a dear old friend. I came up with information I could have gotten for free on other sites, and nothing else. So I chocked it up as a wasted 36.00, but now they are billing it again!! I am LIVID!!!

I am currently disputing the ludicrous practices on reunion.com

They gave me a counter offer of paying only 12.00. This was not acceptable. They used my address book without authorization, and I had to contact everyone to let them know I did not authorize this, including business associates. If this is not resolved to my satisfaction I will be filing a class action suit on behalf of the many others with similar complaints. Want to join me?

Reunion.com truly is a scam. I had been getting a lot of e-mail from them and then deleting them because I assumed it was Spam. Last night I googled "find people" and they were one of the websites that came up. I logged onto their supposed "free" site only to find out NOTHING was free. The site claimed I had 70-some people trying to find me and I was curious to see who they might be since I had been getting all of those e-mails. So I decided to sign up for 3-months at $36.00 and found out in their reply e-mail that I was being charged $60 for a 1-year subscription. So after that and seeing that I did not know even one of the alleged people who were trying to find me, AND the one person I tried to search and get a phone # said I needed to send additional money in order to get a phone #, I decided to call them this morning (way less than 24-hours between signing-up) and explained the situation and asked for a full refund. I too was told I would still be charged $12 (w/o use of my account) and be credited $48. That seems so totally crooked and illegal. Any contract can and should be allowed to be broken under this amount of time. They claim I will get my refund in 3-4 days. I tried to stop this through my bank at 8 AM (approx. 12 hours after I signed up with them)only to find out their charge was ALREADY showing up. They sure did not waste time screwing me. Will keep everyone posted if I get my refund, etc.

I did learn a valuable lesson - to research the company "BEFORE" you sign up. They get you so pumped up over who might be trying to find you that you don't think about that!

I have the number....1-888-704-1900. It is a complete scam, and the reps are nothing but rude! They reps I spoke to all told me different things and even told me I cancelled but NEVER asked for a refund...lame! Got the run around and was promised $48--had to pay $12 for nothing...I realized it was a scam the moment I hit submit to charge my card. The $1.00 start up fee was a joke...in small white font it stays plus $59. I called an cancelled on 11/5/08 and I am still fighting to get a refund of any sort. If you call, when asked to choose a number, pick 1...since it is to PURCHASE the service. That is the only option to get a rep on the phone. 1-888-704-1900. This site should be shut down for fraud!!! They should also have no right to charge you for poor service, lack of service, and false advertisement.

Also.... Did anyone notice that almost EVERY profile lists the same 13 friends? Daphne, Jeffery, Harold, Jean, and so on!? I got ticked off to see that a certain person had "made friends" with this Daphne person, only to find out she is also my friend and everyone elses on there! What a scam!

I just got off the phone with a customer rep with Reunion.com. I had two complaints: 1) I was charged for the one year plan at $60 after I had selected the 3 month plan at $36. 2) The profile I wanted to view, and which I had to have a premium account in order to view it, turned out to be a public profile generated with public information by Reunion.com not by the person named in the profile. This was not information that I hadn't seen before for free doing other searches. After having my membership for only a few hours I called to see if I could cancel it, or at least have my fee lowered to what I really choose, $36 for 3 months. After reading so many complaints about Reunion.com I expected the worse, no refund, and maybe even some rudeness. Instead, they were pleasant and stated that I would be given a $48 refund back to my credit card within 3-5 business days. I was so surprised that I didn't question why they wanted to retain $12. And, I would have 30 days to use the account, to see if I like it. After reading so many complaints, I am relieved at my outcome. However, if my refund does not show up as promised, I will post another complaint. Maybe Reunion.com is cleaning up its act, but I wish I had read more about them first and would not trust them again. I feel like I have to change my credit card account numbers to eliminate any possility of them making an unauthorized charge against it in the future. Also, Paypal seems to have problems of its own, and with other website businesses like E-bay. I would not want to do business with Paypal either. Reunion.com seems to be deceptive in its practices and if found guilty of fraud I hope they have to pay out millions to those who've been less fortunate than I,(or as I presume to be.)

Also, if you pay via paypal, even if you have cancelled auto payments, they have the paypal link setup as a subscription, but if it says that anywhere it is in very fine print or buried deep in the website, so even if you cancel auto pay, paypal has been told to pay every 3 months anyway. So I had to call and tell them this and they had the nerve to try and tell me that's something PAYPAL does, when I know that it has to do with how they coded their pay via paypal link to make it into a subscription. UGH!
