Firstly, I will start off by saying that I have been working at Future Shop in Ottawa for four years now and I have never met such rude customers in my life. What you customers have to understand is that as employees, we just have to follow policy as stipulated by head office and our managers. Future Shop has a very good return policy (30 days on most items and 14 on some). If you come to Future Shop after the return policy and we tell you we can't do anything about it, please don't yell at us, we are just doing our jobs. Most of us are in school and are just working to pay our way through it. We don't want to hear you sob story about how you were out of town and could not return the product. TOO BAD. Policies are policies and should be followed. If a customer, especially an adult is going to come into Future Shop and yell at a teenager for following policy, then you really need some help. We don't have the power and frankly we don't even care about stretching the policy to help you out. I can honestly say it is very rare that as a Customer Service Specialist that I get a polite customer. Most customers think that they are always right and in most cases are wrong. These are just a few experiences of the many that I have personally gone through. 1) A customer wanted to return a CD for a full refund after it had been opened. It clearly states on the reciept opened software/music/dvds cannot be returned DUE TO GOVERNMENT COPYRIGHT INFRINGMENT LAWS. I told the customer he could not and he began to yell and swear at me before throwing the CD at me (and yes it did hit me). GET A LIFE BUDDY. 2) I have had many customers threaten to kill me at which point the police had to be contacted. Listen, I am working at Future Shop making a shitty hourly wage and don't really care if you are unable to return something because it is out of policy. Also, customers just don't understand the way things work. Customers seem to think they know more about our jobs than we do. Let me just clarify a few things for you. 1) Mail in rebates are not through Future Shop, they are through the respective manufacturer. If you do not receive a rebate, do not yell at us, you have to contact the manufacturer as it states on your mail in rebate form. Most of you are to stupid to READ the instructions and it is a customers fault most of the time because they forgot to include something in the rebate. 2) Opened software cannot be returned period. This is not our law. It is from the Government of Ontario. If you don't like it then speak to them. 3) No warranty covers physical damage. If you purchase an extended warranty and you smash you product, even if it is a accident, it is not covered by any type of warranty. When you buy the warranty, we give you a pamphlet stating the terms and conditions to which you sign for on your receipt. Even if you leave an LCD screen in the cold and the liquid freezes that is not covered. Sorry but stupidity is not covered. If you can't take care of a product, then I suggest not purchasing one at all. 4) Just because you spent $5000 at Future Shop within the last year, that means absolutely nothing to us. Every customer is the same, whether or not you purchased a CD or a big screen T.V. So STOP using that excuse. 5) Rude customer that are going to yell and swear at us, trust me you will not get you way, especially at our store. Goverment workers can use a little lesson in manners. (Not all of you, but many of you) Working for the government means shit to me. Shouldn't you be working instead of calling us and bitching about something. Everyday, during business hours we receive almost half of our phone calls from the GOC. We have caller ID. Stop wasting our tax dollars and do some damn work for once. 6) Talking about phones. Automated menus are there for a reason, so use it. Don't press zero because when you do we just put you on hold. 7) There is so much to complain about but just one more thing. If there is a problem with you Future Shop card account, it is probably because you are an idiot and didn't make you payments on time, even though it states that every payment must be made on time or finance charges will apply. If there is a mistake on you bill, which happens, don't call a store and bitch at us, call the Credit Card company. Just because we give you the credit card it doesn't mean we are in charge of it. We pay someone else to take care of our credit cards. We are there customers like you are ours. I will admit though, very very rarely I do get to serve a very nice customer and I do appreciate it. But unfortunately, by the time I serve you I have already been pissed of by the a**hole before you that I won't seem very nice and will be understandably frustrated. And for those who say I souldn't be working as a Customer Service Specialist because I can't deal with the stress, you try being bitched at everyday of you life by some low life loser that comes into Future Shop on Christmas Eve, one minute before we close to return a $2 cable and then yell at us before he leaves. For the rare customer that is polite, thank you. For those that are pricks, go screw yourselves. The staff are totally useless (and I note your comments about crapy hourly rate - you accepted it man, not the clients problem). What does become the clients problem is when some idiot is trying to sell them a product which he/she has no idea about. Some clients actually do know what they are shopping for, do understand the products and to hear some useless idiot spouting forth a diatribe of useless, incorrect information is not only insulting it should be against the law. If you cant learn your products maybe a job in the fast food line would suit you better (fries are pretty easy to get your head around). In all of the times I shopped at Future shop, I only once had a courteous, helpful service, thats why I will pay more to go to a store where they actually understand the products or are at least willing to check with an associate who might. You really seem to have the wrong attitude to work in any form of customer service - perhaps most fields. If clients seem a tad pissed off at the proceedings it might be because we have to pay good, hard earned cash to buy the products and when we are sold a total line of lies - oh yes, your extended warranty fiction - you are surprised that we didnt read the 50 pages of miniscule, legalese that you hurry to get us to sign up to before cashing in on your commission.
