1998 Pontiac Transport/Montana Intake Manifold/Head Gasket/Lifters Apparently there are documented cases of problems with the coolant used by GM in it's vehicles. I have a 1998 Pontiac Transport/Montana and very recently the engine temperature gauge began displaying a higher engine temp. I noticed that my coolant was low (thought from extra driving) and added the proper coolant to the vehicle. All appeared ok for a week or so and the same thing happened. Scheduling and finance problems kept me from immediately taking my vehicle in for service to look at this problem. By the time I got it in apparently (as told by the mechanics) that probably the head gaskets had failed and also that there maybe damage to the cylinder lifters. Had I known about this problem with the coolant I would not now be without it's use. I'm having to donate it to Volunteers of America and take the loss.
