Fighting against SBC!!

Be wary of SBC's tricks!!

Here is my story. I used to live in Chicago and sined up 1-year contract with SBC for DSL service. After around seven months, I moved to Grand Forks, North Dakota where SBC service is unavailable. Before I moved I called SBC and gave them my new address so that they coud forward my last bill. The phone rep informed me that they have no service in that area, so my contract would be relieved without the early termination fee of 200 dollar.

About one month later after I moved to Grand Forks, I recieved a bill from SBC. It included the termination fee of $200. I called SBC again. The phone rep told me they want to serve me but I move out of SBC service area. I did not want to waste my time, I paid my last month bill except the termination fee and wrote them a letter to state that the fee is not acceptable.

They charged my last payment from my bank soon. Around three weeks, they sent me a letter threating to start collection activity. What I decide is not to pay the unfair fee and is to stay away from SBC forever.
