Weider Platinum Plus Icon Health & Fitness, Logan Utah
In December 2005 I ordered the Weider Platinum Plus, a weight/exercise system, sold by IconFitness, through Costco.com. When the system arrived I arranged for professional assembly, a service I was charged $221.00 for. Three days after the unit was assembled, the electronics quit working and the system would not function. I called IconFitness at their customer service number to get warranty repair service, but since they were “too busy” to personally talk on the phone with me, I was given the option of leaving my phone number with the assurance that they would call me within 24 hours. Two days later I had not had my call returned, so I attempted to contact them again and got the same routine. I returned the system to my local Costco warehouse for a refund. I have attempted to have my assembly fee reimbursed, both directly from IconFitness and through my credit card company but have been refused. Supposedly I got what I paid for, which was the assembly of the unit. I don’t dispute this. What I do dispute is that I did not have use of the system that I paid to have assembled. I could not get IconFitness to respond to phone calls in an attempt to get warranty service. IconFitness claims that I did not give them a chance to repair the system and I should have contacted them by email. If they won’t return a phone call I have serious doubts they would reply to an email. Additionally, the unit as sold by Costco.com only comes with a 90 day warranty. This is significantly less of a warranty than what is offered if the system is ordered directly from IconFitness and leads me to believe that the systems that they sell through Costco.com are remanufactured or refurbished. Due to the very large price discount with Costco and the radically reduced warranty I believe this to be true but don’t have any real proof. If true, this fact is not disclosed at the time of purchase. I believe that IconFitness sells substandard merchandise and is not responsive to requests for warranty service and I stand behind the belief that I am due a refund of the assembly fee I paid. T.
