Empirt/ Carpet installation

Empire Carpet - Hackettstown NJ -

Carpet installed, but furniture and room contents were removed haphazardly, and then thrown back into the rooms afterwards, and even into the bathroom and tub. Things were just thrown, piled into the closets. Our bed was not put together and took 3 hours to reassemble (it just has a platform of drawers underneath, a mattrss, and a headboard) The description written by the salesman about the amount of furniture they would have to deal with was 'medium'. We were not asked to do anything in advance besides unplugging the computers and peripherals.

One picture on the stairway wall was damaged, and a desk was broken. The workers locked the door to the room so we wouldn't see while they tried to put it back together.

This particular desk was no big deal - had a weak spot that we knew about - but the sneakiness of locking the door makes me wonder what else they did that we don't know about.

Some bedroom furniture just shoved into the bathroom - clothes in the tub, lamps by the toilet. There was no discussion about furniture removal with the salesman, except that 'furniture moving' was included. One wouldn't think that it would be necessary to ask if furniture moving included putting it pack where it came from.

Our bedrooms look like a hurricane went through, and it will take us at least 3 days to get it back together. Before they left it sounded as if they were arguing, and throwing things in the room.

They brought their own shop vac, and used our broom and dustpan, and the place is still filthy. They left big dirty footprints on the bathroom floor tile.

Though the salesman assured us that language and training would not be a problem, only one of the pair of workers spoke English, and his was very poor.

Installers took twice as long as the time estimate we were given, and then left the old carpet in front of our cars in the driveway, instead of at the curb for trash collection. Moving the old carpet to the curb was written in the contract. This was reported to the company and they will send the workers back to make it right.

I don't know if it's anyone's fault that the smell is so strong, but this is a problem, too.

Is it true that we can stop payment on the job within 3 days if we're unhappy with it?
