I had gas services with Shell Energy at my 1st residence from 2001 - 2002. In February of 2002 I moved from that residence to a new location that did not require a gas connection. So before I moved to my new residence I contacted Shell Energy to have the gas service disconnected on the day that I moved. Shell energy was very polite about disconnecting the service and asked why I wasn't needing service with them. I explained that my new residence was all electric and there was no need for gas. They noted my comment and said that the gas service would be disconnected.

In 2005 I moved into a new home that did require gas service. Being I had a good experience with Shell Energy before I figured I would use them again. I gave Shell my information and they denied me service with the company for bad debt. This confused me cause the last time I did any business with this company was in 2002. I knew for a fact that I paid all debts with them (so I thought) and none of this so called debt had been reported on my credit report. So after some investigating I found out that Shell Energy was claiming that I owed the company over $500 for gas services when I wasn't even residing in the residence. They continued to bill me for service at my 1st residence till April 2002. I hadn't resided in that residence for 2 months but they continued to bill the gas service in my name. Being my new residence at the time didn't require a gas connection I had no clue they were billing me for months that I wasn't there. When I found out this information I disputed it with the company. Calls after calls to customer service, I finally thought I had this issue resolved with Shell Energy until last month when I pulled my credit report I saw that Shell Energy had sent me to a collection company for this debt.

Since then I have certified mailed a complaint to Shell Energy and the Collection company they sent me to. I have threatened to contact the Better Business Bureau. As of today February 1st I have not heard back from the company. If anyone has any other suggestions on getting this debt cleared and taken off my credit report I would appreciate the advise.
