Columbia House DVD club and Superman Ultimate Collection

On November 1st I preordered the Superman Ultimate Collection DVD from Columbia House to be released on 11/28/06 for the low price of $59.99. This was about $20 lower than Best Buy and other outlets so I preordered it. On 11/29/06 I e-mailed Columbia House to find out when it would ship. They stated it would ship as soon as my bank card authorization went through. I looked at my checking account and there was indeed a check card hold for $65.69 from Columbia House. I thought great, I will get it in a day or two. Then on 12/1/06 I received another e-mail stating that the item was out of stock and if not in by 12/28/06 the order would be cancelled. I e-mailed them right back asking how they can be out of stock on an item preordered almost a month in advance. They did not respond to the question, only restated that the item was out of stock and I should keep checking the website. I sent many e-mails requesting more information on their failure to honor a preorder to no avail. They would not admit to any wrong doing nor offer any compensation for their incompetence and for my aggravation, frustration and inconvenience. Companies like this need to learn what they do to consumers when they fail to honor preorders and shipment agreements especially at holiday time. At least Best Buy offered $20 gift cards for their Playstation 3 preorder blunder. I believe since this price was so low, Columbia House never intended to honor the preorders.
