HOTEL DIKKER & THIJS, AMSTERDAM, THE NETHERLANDS and Mr. Fodor's 2006 travel guide book

HOTEL DIKKER & THIJS, Amsterdam, The Netherlands

My husband and I reserved a room at the above hotel from October 24th to October 28, 2006 based on a recommendtion from the 2006 Fodor travel guide book. It was described as a four star hotel and one of the few upper end hotels that serve a buffet breakfast.

Upon arrival we were shocked to see our "four star hotel room." It was a small room with a bed just wider than a single bed despite the fact that we asked for a large bed for two. There was no dresser or any place to store our clothing and just one light on the side of the bed plus another dim one across the room. The furniture was old and shabby and reading after dark was not possible! I immediately asked for another room since this room in my opionion was a room for one person, not two people. I was informed the hotel was booked and changing rooms at any time during our stay was not possible.

The buffet breakfast was very nice, the hotel was clean and the location much to our liking but the room was at best, terrible.

The reservation was made on the recommendation in Mr. Fodor's 2006 travel guide and I feel we were tricked and taken advantage of. No longer will I follow his descriptions and I feel compelled to tell anyone planning a trip that his advice is not to be trusted.
