Maytag Neptune TL Washer Model: FAV9800AWW


My wife and I saved up our hard earned cash and figured we would go “top of the line” and go with the “stage of the art” brand-name. So we purchased a Maytag Neptune TL at Lowes for about $1200 two years ago… WHAT a nightmare!


The first day, the machine would just turn off. The warranty was obviously still good, and the local repair service had to change the whole “board.” Within weeks the machine started turning off again. So a second “board” was replaced.


We soon noted the hassle of how the washer would rap the clothing articles in knots and twists. Sounds trivial, but some towels and sheets were unimaginably twisted.


We also thought we were crazy, but thought we could smell a musty or moldy odor about the clothing. Now my wife used the HE detergent, fabric softener and dryer sheets, and we could still smell the musty aroma.


Every now and then I thought I could see trickles of water coming from under the machine…


We recently started having the machine stall prior to rinsing and spinning, getting errors on the screen about the load being unbalanced. Even doing a almost empty load, the machine would still not spin and go thought a complete cycle.


Not to mention the hassle with the HE detergent, longer wash times, and all of the above, we just thought that we alone purchased a rare lemon from Maytag.


After getting online, it was a ironic chagrin to find that too many other people mention and complain about the same issues we did!


It is a shame that in America in 2006 that a major appliance company can produce such a rotten product, and not back what they sell.


We will never purchase a Maytag product again!
