Car purchased at Faraz Auto in Toronto

Car purchased at Faraz Auto in Toronto

We purchased a car from Faraz auto located on Keele St in Toronto this summer. We had a mechanic do a quick check of the car and then purchased it. When we picked up the car we received with it an ON safety approval so we though it was safe. We then moved into a new province and therefore had to get another safety check done only to discover that there was a piece missing to hold the tire on properly. We drove the car onto a tow truck from Faraz, towed it across country and did not drive it all until we took it for this new safety check… I don’t know who approved the ON safety inspection, but I do know that I would not be surprised if Faraz tampered with our car after the inspection before we picked it up or if they have some connection with a shop who does illegal safety checks.

So when we called Ben at Faraz to discuss this concern his response was “Come in and we’ll fix it”. “Come in?!?”, he wanted us to drive an unsafe car across the country!? Its not even safe to drive around town let alone for 16 hrs across 2 provinces! We had to fight just to get him to do something about it because his next response was “Its not my fault you took the car out of province and can’t come back to Toronto to fix it” Its not his fault we left… but its his fault that we were sold an unsafe car! Over all, eventually he sent the missing part to a mechanic shop out here and said that he’d pay for the labour of installing this part but would not pay for the alignment which was also necessary after fixing the tire even though the tire being fixed is his fault.

We’re still waiting for him to reimburse us the cost of repairing the vehicle… which after 3 months of waiting may never happen… It doesn’t matter what the deals are there, don’t go back!

On a good note though, we love the car we bought, now that its safe to drive…

I totally understand what you are going through. I bought a car from Faraz and the emitions test was a fake. I went back to him and told him he had to fix what was making the car fail and then I will take the car. He fixed it at a hefty price but now O2 sensors are failing, wheel bearings need to be replaced, and the car has only 43,000km's on it!!! O2 sensors as well as wheel bearings should last longer then that. Anyways, good luck with your car, I'm trying to sell mine.

I am quite confused by this little excerpt depicting part of your situation. Why did the car have to be towed to another province? I am not sure how that substantiates your grief? Are you suggesting the car had to be towed because you could not drive it with the "missing" piece? That wouldn't make sense because you also mention the revealing safety check was performed out of province. Alternatively, you might have meant to say the car was towed out of province because you wanted it that way (i.e. your choice to have it towed had nothing to do with FarazAuto)

Secondly, I highly doubt that your mechanic (as per your pre-delivery inspection) overlooked this "missing part". Moreover, let’s try and understand FarazAuto's motive for your accusation. I doubt FarazAuto could earn a healthy profit by scheming a plot to take this part out of your car, then going through the trouble to find a suitable car with the exact same specifications to put it in. Or perhaps he decided to sell this part on Kijiji? Do you really think there is a liquid and profitable market out there for used car parts? Moreover, do you really think it is worth his time and reputation to do all of this for a couple of dollars. His inventory comprises of some very expensive cars (RangeRovers priced over 40K). Would anyone seriously expend the energy, and overlook bigger profits from selling cars, for a few dollars from you?

Btw, this part that you describe sounds like a tie-rod end, and there is no possible way a car can even stand with this piece missing. The labour to replace this part often exceeds the cost of the part itself which once again raises the question "Was it really worth it for him to do all of this"?

Here is a more plausible explanation:

The chances that your ON mechanic, and FarazAuto's certifier, overlooked a missing and vital part are slim to none. Instead, perhaps the part in question was not 100% new (a fair assumption given the nature of used cars)

Given your propensity to save money and look for bargains (because buying a used car and towing it out of province was clearly a good enough deal for you), I bet you took the car to a small time garage. And guess what? That mechanic saw you -an out of province sucker with limited knowledge of vehicle maintenance (I know this because of the casual and novice lingo you used to describe the "missing part"), and decided to take you for a ride. He probably told you all kinds of horror stories just to make a buck at the expense of a distant and vulnerable FarazAuto. Also, who's to say he didn't remove the part himself? or the trucking company? or anyone else for that matter?

If anything, FarazAuto was nice enough to offer reimbursement without even seeing the car. If I were him, I would have accused YOU of tampering or driving recklessly (i.e. you hit a curb and decided to blame the car dealer)

You bought a used car that had several prior owners, according to your post, and when it broke down you want to involve the police against the used car dealer! Unbelievable sense of entitlement! If I was the manager at Faraz auto I would call the police on you for repeated harassment. There is a good reason you didn't get anywhere with BBB and other consumer agencies. Next time buy a new car. Reviews like this are misleading and unfairly damage the reputation of businesses. I have purchased 12 cars from Faraz and have found them to be very fair, with excellent after-sales service. Used car dealers sell used cars, they don't remanufacture them.

Our update isnt much better than the original message. Within our first 6 months of owning the car we had to put in $3000.00 in repairs... everything from lights, glow plugs to the turbo blowing. After many many talks with Ben at Faraz Auto we basically got nowhere. He said that "sometimes when you buy a car you need to put some work into it" safe car my A**. I tried to contact the BBB and got nowhere with that, i also called the dealership insurance company and basically got told i dont qualify for help.

in the end Ben ended up screwing us out of a total $5000 but we got a 05 TDI out of it (which i contacted every owner/dealer that ever had the car to know exactly what had/hadnot been done to it.) i still stick by my belief that Faraz Auto should be shut down and made to pay for their crap.

My last note is hopefully one that reaches Ben. I have been in contact with the police over the last couple years and are still hopeful that something will come of all of the crap he has put me through.
