Verizon kept billing me when i closed my account , and now they have passed to colelction agency.

I got Verizon Fios about spring 2006, all was great untill i had to

move to a new address, so on June 28th 2006 i called up fios and told

them that i have to move , they said that we(verizon) will close the

account, and open a new one, so i gave all my info again, gave them a

new card to charge.

So i moved and my landloard said that he is gonna fix sidding on his

house in couple of month, and it would be better, if i wouldnt get

verizon fios for now ( they install a big box on the side of you

house). I wasnt home one day and the verizon guy came in to install,

my mother opened up a door, i forgot to tell here that (because they

came a day earlier that they said they would) so she didnt know what

to say, they guy said call back when you get letter that says that my

landlord allows the box on the side of his house. I never got that

letter, so i never called them. And i never heard from verizon, so

that was it.

Now we fast forward to October, i jsut randomly desided to stop by my

old house to check some mail if any. To my big surprise there is a

letter from verizon saying that i owe them 145 dollars for cancelation

fee, late payment and owed last month? Now i called verizon to sort it

out, they admited that the service shouldve stoped on jne 28, thats

when i called, and they said they dont really understand why i have

been charged till september and that they will give me a call back

within a week and sort it all out. like a good boy, happy that i

finally prooved a big corporation wrong, was sitting like an idiot and

waiting for their call. now instead of a call back i just got a

letter, and not to my old address like they kept sending me all thoes

letters, but to my new addresss, saying: Payments: Writeoff-145 . Well

i though that this was good, and forgot about it, since it said that

amount due is 0 dollars.

Now two days later Afni comes into the picture, they call me up, first

of they interupt me, yell at me, insult and belittle me through the

whole conversation, and it feels like evey time i say something they

say, ok thats great, how will you be paying. I tell them my story ,

first of, they accuse me of lying and changing my story ? when i ask

how did i change my story, they ask me how will i be paying.

So in my painful conversation, i explained Afni what happened, they

told me, that, since i changed my story so much during their

conversation, i cold not possibly remember the conversation and that

there were some miscommunication and that i didnt understand that my

card is still being charged, i had with a verizon rep june 28th, when

i ask them do they have a record that my account was closed on 28th of

june, they say no(even tho verizon person said they do) i asked them ,

so how can i proove that i dont own any money.

They tell me i have to talk to verizon, but wait, i cant because my

account is with afni!! They keep telling me that probably i signed a

contract saying that i will keep using verizon fios for certained

amount of time ( honestly i dont remember if i did) but they dont even

know if i did, they dont have any of my account iformation, they dont

have records of me calling them on 28th of june, or me calling verizon

couple of weeks ago,( or so they say).

What should i do, they threaten to put on my credit report, i mean its

only 145 dollars, but i am a college student, and its a lot of money

for me, and i dont want them to win.

P.S. My only proof is that have two different cards that have been

chraged first it was my credit card, and then when i said im moving

and i gave them my new info, i gave them my debit card. Please help,

let me know if you need more info.

P.S.S. It also doesnt make to sense to me,that verizon can charge me

for service, that they didnt provide. I know i shouldve checked my

bank statment, but im young and would never think that someone could

try rip me off like that, like we always think.

This is quite the story, but no worse than what Verizon typically has.

So, what do you do?

Note I am not a legal expert. But I would advise the following:

* Dispute the charges to your credit card/debit card. To do this call the bank. A business legally cannot charge for services it cannot provide.

* Write down the major points of your story on a list you can read. From what you wrote, it is clear you are either emotional about this or do not write well, either of which reflects in your communication during a phone call. Do not stray from the events that happened; also do not attempt to clarify when interrogated. The events are clear--report those and demand your refund.

* If you are unable to make any headway with traditional paths, see the consumerist dot com website to determine how to create an Executive Email Carpet Bomb or email Mark.D.Reddick AT verizon.com. This is the Executive over customer service. Once again do not waste your time or theirs by becoming emotional or engaging in a feud--this is purely business to them and in their mind they have no reason to give the money back without proof.

* If this doesn't work, rewrite your story and post it to the consumerist.
