Orbitz Website-"Great Fun . Com" Last night (December 28th 2006) I was on the Orbitz website. As I finished up payment of a hotel room I'd reserved on this site, I read a message that asked if I'd like to save an additional 15% on my purchase to click a button. I did this and the website "Great Fun" said that I'd become a member and I would be charged 9.99 per month on the credit card I'd just used to pay for my hotel room. They give you a 1 888 number to call to cancel but I felt this is such a hassle considering I never requested membership with "Great Fun" and for them to just take my credit card information for something I didn't sign up for, is just plain wrong and dishonest. I mean, who wouldn't want to save an additional percentage? Then, you have to call to cancel and are put on hold for a while and redirected a couple of times before you get someone who simply confirms your address and gives you a confirmation. I'm cancelling my credit card because of this. I mean they could take your credit card information and do anything with it if they can just sign you up for a website just for clicking a button on another website. I'm very disappointed with Orbitz on this because they seem like a good and reputable website. I book with Obitz for a car rental in June and now I just discovered that "Great Fun" has been taking $11.99 out of my checking account for the last 5 months. I am so upset with this company. It's not only Orbitz it's Hotel.com and other rental/booking agencies. I use Priceline.com to book my hotel to NY. It automatically led me to Great Fun's website to claim 15% discount. I didn't even realize what the deal was, my information was submitted to Great Fun including my credit card information. It was not fun that I was charged $11.99 each month starting from 05/2009 to my AE account and I didn't even noticed the charge. I submitted a transaction dispute through AE and emailed Great Fun CS to get my refund back. It apparently damages my credit score because I didn't notice the payment and the late fee keeps accumulating. Great Fun mailed me a $9.99 check and the term said if I cash out this check a monthly charge will appear on my account as I admit the service. However, I have never deposit or cash the check. Great Fun and priceline created such a big hassle and damage to me. I am very angry and disappointed for both web companies. They have been taking 11.99 out of my checking acct. When I called them and asked about my membership they couldnt locate me and wanted my checking account number. I told Lee Wallace the supervison that I wanted a refund and he hung up on me. I had to cancel via stop payment on my account From: Message Author (click here to email author) (has asked not to receive email)Date: Friday, 23-Jan-09 09:41:35 CST Business: Reply Online Consumer: Comment On This Comment On ThisThis happened to me also. I contacted GreatFun @ the 800 # on Dec. 17 and they assured me my account would be credited. So far that has not happened. I'm very dissapointed in Orbitz also. I will wait anothe 10 days and call again I hope I don't have to cancel my credit card because of this. I called and it took forever to get through to someone. When I did, I asked what and why we are being charged $12.99 month. I was told that when making a purchase on Hotels.com that in the small print we had agreed to sign up for this service. The agent mentioned that it would be easy to overlook. I said we do not want it. He kept saying what a great deal it is and we should check out their web-site. After reading these complaints I am going to try to get a refund and of course cancel any future debits to our credit card. From: Message Author (click here to email author) Date: Wednesday, 29-Oct-08 01:04:07 CDT Business: Reply Online Consumer: Comment On This Comment On ThisToday I received a postcard stating that my Great Fun membership fee would go up to $13.99. But I'd never heard of Great Fun. So when I called to cancel they offered me another year's membership for free. I told them to cancel and they gave me a cancellation confirmation number. I don't believe they ever charged any of my cards. Nor did they ever send me any information about my "benefits." BTW, when trying to find Great Fun on the WWW, this is the first site that came up. If they were a legit business, you think they'd have a website. It's got to be a scam. I didn't realize they had been charging my credit card since December (it's now September). I called the phone number on the credit card and was told I had gotten signed up through Classmates.com. I told her to immediately cancel me and refund my money or I would take legal action. After I found comments like these, I was concerned that they hadn't done this. So I called my credit card company. I was told that they had cancelled me and refunded my money. I wonder how they are doing this? Are these other websites like Classmates and Orbitz involved in this scam? If not, how is this company getting our credit card info? The lady at the credit card company was so helpful. She did tell me that the company is a travel company called Elite Excursions. From: Message Author (click here to email author)Date: Thursday, 18-Sep-08 12:15:13 CDT Business: Reply Online Consumer: Comment On This Comment On ThisI just noticed an automatic payment taken out of my bank account (they got my debit card information). They said I signed up for it while using Classmates.com. I didn't sign up for anything. They have a pop-up that comes up when you're on certain websites and if the box is, or isn't checked? it automatically signs you up. I told them I wanted it cancelled immediately and that it better not show up on my next statement, or I would take legal recourse. They apologized and gave me a cancellation number and said they would refund my $12.99 in 10-15 days. We'll see. Now I have to cancel my debit card, as I do not trust them.......especially after reading all the complaints! I bought a ticket on Orbitz, got redirected to Great Fun who is owned by the Tilegiant Corporation. At no time did I knowningly authorize Great Fun to make a monthly reoccuring deduction from my credit card. Great Fun was of no help. Ultimately I recieved a full refund after filing complaints with both the Federal Trade Commission and the Better Business Bureau at http://www.connecticut.bbb.org. From: Message Author (click here to email author)Date: Friday, 25-Jul-08 11:35:08 CDT Business: Reply Online Consumer: Comment On This Comment On ThisI too had the same problem using Fandango. I called 800-290-8603 and after going through spelling my name, etc, I got to a representative named Rachel. After reading what appeared to be a script and trying to convince me to keep my membership, she eventually agreed to cancel it and refund my money (you need to be persistent). I got a cancellation number from her. I noticed the charge only 5 days ago on my credit card bill and will wait to see if the 11.99 credit actually goes through. For all intents and purposes, this is a scam. I don't care what link I clicked on, I never authorized anyone other than Fandango to charge me. Plus, I never received any type of mail or confirmation of membership to "Great Fun". I feel sorry for the many folks who don't scrutinize their credit card bills and get taken for a ride by Fandango and Great Fun. Obviously, I won't be doing business with either one of them again. I did not sign up for anything else, consciously anyway. Soon after, I started receiving what I thought was just advertising, junk mail, from this Great Fun outfit. Iremember briefly looking over one of the first ads to arrive. "Save money at all these places," it said. "Whoever heard of these places. This is junk", I said, throwing the ad into the trash. I didn't realize that I had just thrown away what was probably membership material. This spring was very busy for me and it wasn't until early July that I noticed an $11.99 three month recurring charge on my credit card from this Great Fun outfit. I called them and spoke to a pleasant young woman who apologized and said she would immediately discontinue my "membership" and refund my $11.99 but that she was not authorized to refund any more than one month. Annoyed, I ordered her to get her supervisor who told me she could only do two months. I was incensed and started to come unglued. She put me on hold again, returning to say they would refund my entire amount. I was admonishing her company, through her, and in the course of conversation discovered that it was PriceLine's page that had hooked me. Then I remembered that this same thing had happened to me about five years yearlier when I purchased an airline ticket to Russia. It was Great Fun that time also! They, and PriceLine (probably PriceLine owned!) have been scamming people for over five years. This activity should be made illegal, if it already isn't! Are there any Consumer Action groups that would take this on? I called them up and demanded they remove me from thier membership. They actually had the balls to try to convince me to keep it!
