ADT & Ranger American

To whom it may concern,

I contacted ADT for security monitoring services in my

new home in Austin, TX. I schedule an appointment

with ADT, but Ranger American shows up at my house.

My system was already installed by the builder, so

essentially, Ranger American needed to do nothing.

They insisted I needed sign up for a 3 year contract

and was offered service with either Ranger American

(cheaper) or ADT. Having never heard of Ranger

American, I signed up with ADT. I have been having

biling problems since Day 1. Ranger American asked

for my credit card information in order to charge me

for the start up fee of $107. The next thing I know,

they have charged me $69 for two months of service,

sent me an invoice for the same $69 (which I

unknowingly paid), and charged me for the $107 start

up costs. I have invested much time to try to get my

money back for the double billing, to no avail.

ADT has been absolutely useless in trying to get this

issue resolved. They are now telling me that I

authorized credit card billing which is done one month

in advance. This is absolutely not true. The only

charge I authorized to my credit card were the

start-up costs. Well, needless to say, ADT will do

nothing to help me. My only option is to cancel the

contract when my 3 years have expired. Considering

I'm a new customer of only 2 months, I would hope they

would provide better customer service than this. I

have been thoroughly unimpressed with both ADT and

Ranger American. It appears it is impossible to file

complaints against Ranger American because their

headquarters is in Puerto Rico. Whatever you do,

definitely do plenty of research before doing business

with either of these companies.
