Barrett Dodge - Service Department, Athens, GA On August 8th I stopped by our local Dodge dealership to speak with the service department. Recently, my 2005 Dodge Cummins Diesel 4x4 Quad Cab experienced the ABS and BRAKE light turning on while my speedometer stopped working. After hours of research on the web, it’s been discovered as a common problem among Dodge owners, and an easy fix by replacing a sensor located on the rear wheel housing. I asked the service writer when I pulled in, if it would be possible to speak with tech regarding the sensor. I was going to remove it on my own, but wanted simply to know if disconnecting the batteries was advisable being that it was a break sensor. The service writer told me that technician’s work hourly, and if allowed everybody to speak with them, then the technician would never finish any scheduled work. To me, this seemed a bit extreme being that we are located in such a small town, but still understandable. I then proceeded to ask him if he could point me in the direction of anybody else who may know, or if he knew and could advise me? His response, submit your vehicle for service and somebody will call you. I asked if there was a fee, he said, either a diagnostic fee will apply, or minimum hourly charge for service will apply. At this point, it was clear we were not seeing eye to eye, so I decided to leave. While walking back toward my truck, his peer asked him “what was that all about” and his response was “some backyard mechanic needing help”. I am appalled at the actions, response and service shown through the dealership. I’ve told several of my friends and family about this and they have vowed not ever utilized Barrett Dodge for any future needs. It amazes me, how a simply person, who earns a living in the “customer service” occupation, can turn an entire dealerships reputation sour in just a few seconds. I purchase a new truck almost every two years, and will have no problem driving 30 min’s to another dealer or encouraging others not to deal with Barrett Dodge in Athens, GA.
