? on my bill

MCI,

I have been trying to contact someone from MCI to ask a question about the taxes charged on my bill. However, for the past two weeks when I call customer service the message tells me you are experencing unusually high volume of calls. I have tried calling all different times.

Now the question about my bill. I was charged $19.18 in taxes. My bill was for $40.34. I can't imagine that taxes on $40.34 is 50%. Could someone please explain the bill to me.
