Sealy Posturpedic mattress Pagentry Pillowtop set

I purchased the box spring and mattress at Johan’s Countrywide, 24667 Adelaide St, Strathroy ON. I paid $1167.00 for the set on November 18/02. During the 2nd year of use the mattress started to sag under the weight of my body. I’m about 150lbs. I turned the mattress regardless of the fact that I was told I didn’t have to turn the mattress. In the next 6 months the other side did the same thing. This left me with a sore back and neck and waking up with a headache almost every day.

March 14/06 – went to Countrywide with warranty for the mattress. After explaining my problem, I was referred to Horatio, the man who looks after the warranty problems. I also spoke to the owner and salesman who sold me the mattress. He had told me at time of sale I would never have to worry about Sealy. They stood behind their product. I was advised by Horatio that the sag must be visible and be 1.5 inches in depth. He said Sealy isn’t interested in comfort of anybody, only structural damages. I explained my physical discomforts. He repeated they didn’t care about comfort, only making a sale. The owner stated he would talk to the Sealy rep who apparently finds it distasteful to talk to customers.

April 5/06 – the warranty person from the store asked if he could come over and measure the sag. Since the insertion of the new foam products in mattresses, sags are no longer visible but are most definitely felt when lying on the mattress. He arrived and explained the method of measurement. This consists of stretching a piece of string across the mattress at no particular point to determine the sag. He stated he would relay the results of the ‘test’ to the Sealy representative and that he would ask him to come out the next time he passed through the area.

April 12- call from Horatio that the sealy rep would be in town the next day and they would call before coming out.

April 13 – no call from the store so I finally called there at 2pm and asked if the rep did arrive. I was told he was in a meeting and maybe would be out. I explained that my time was valuable and committed and I would appreciate an answer. Horatio told me the guy would come soon (???)\

3:15pm the sealy rep, Tom Ferrede arrives. He gives me a look of disdain as though he was walking through a barn (my house is meticulous) He started right out asserting that the warranty would only cover if the mattress depression was 1.5” or more. I showed him the bed which was stripped and he was protesting all the way that the warranty wouldn’t cover anything except collapse of structure of the mattress. Throughout the visit he repeated that Sealy didn’t care about comfort, that was only a ruse to make the sale and meant nothing to them as a company. He told me I was fortunate to have such a mattress and that lots of people would be happy to have it. I asked him for names but he didn’t have any. He neglected to acknowledge that I paid 1100.00 for that privilege. I now realize that a comparable mattress by any other company would have been as much as $400.00 less. When I reminded him on at least 2 occasions that I expected more than 3.2 years from a mattress at this cost, he ignored me and gave a look of utter disgust around the room. He told me I could call head office but they wouldn’t care and wouldn’t do anything.

This man was an arrogant, overbearing, inconsiderate person who isn’t about to be asked questions by a mere woman. I’m sure if he had walked into a house worth $250,000 the response would have been very different. At least my house is paid for.

Sealy is trying to conceal inferior design by filling the mattress with foam products that don’t show a sag but can’t conceal it when you lie on it.

Sealy doesn’t warranty anything so why are merchants allowed to say there is warranty.

Sealy doesn’t care about comfort. It is a fraudulent method of getting unsuspecting people to buy their product. Fraud is fraud no matter how it is presented.
