AOL shell game

AOL shell game AOL claims it is providing a free service - it is, sort of.
In March/April AOL raised the price of its dial-up service from $23+ to $25+. About the same time they announced that they would provide broadband high speed service for the same price, $25+. So why not?
What was not stated very clearly was that the broadband service was being provided by Time-Warner, who owns AOL, and was billed by TW. AOL technically did not charge for the service but the Time-Warner / AOL company was getting money for services.
When I called AOL to inquire about the "free" service I was informed that I was already receiving the service free.
When I sign on to the broadband service the same windows come up as those that I used when I had dial-up. No mention that I am using someone else's broadband.
So all this talk about getting "free" AOL is technically correct but is verry misleading.
Now that Time-Warner is leaving my market area, Houston, what happens when Comcast takes over? From: Message Author (click here to email author)Date: Friday, 04-Aug-06 10:49:10 CDT Business: Reply Online Consumer: Comment On This |
