Honda CR-V, sales White Plains Honda, White Plains, NY Stopped into the dealership to find out how much a new Honda CRV would cost, the value of my trade-in, and financing options. They asked me to put $500 down, fully refundable in NY, took my insurance information in case I decided to buy and said they would call. I heard from Honda first, asking how I liked my new car. Then at the end of the month I heard from the dealer asking when I was picking it up. I said I wasn't buying a car, just trying to get information. The promised to call with the answers, but never did. Next call was more direct that I needed to pick up my new car. I reminded them they had never called so they offered me 0% financing. I confirmed by fax that I was accepting. I went in to pick up the car almost two months after this all started. Found out that 0% wasn't an option for the full value of the car. I'd already made plans to sell my old car so I had to move forward. Finally got the point where the details were being finalized and was asked what I was putting down. They had refunded my $500 a week or two earlier but I wasn't aware of it (credit back to my card). I should have walked, but I was in a bind over my old car. They proceeded to sell me an extended warranty on the premise it would lower my interest rate, which I later found out was illegal. They had also put my "new" car on my insurance policy a month before I even took delivery and my insurance company cancelled my policy since I didn't pay enough to cover it. Didn't even know it was on my policy. Had to get new, more expensive insurance as a result. Tried to use the NY state auto dealers association arbitration program, but the dealer blew it off. Considering filing a small claims case against them. Just hope the statute of limitations hasn't expired.
