JC Penny on line:

I visited a JC Penny store and decided I liked the look of the furniture, we were shopping for a bedroom set and dining room set. The prices were good, but they did not have it in stock. We had to decide on a few things for our new house and had to check exact dimensions etc. The salesman suggested we go to jcpenny.com and order.

First complaint: we noted the order to “not to deliver until after Aug 16th” (our closing date).

Over the next week I had 5 calls from JC Penny and their freighting company telling me the good news that the item was to be delivered. Seems nobody reads the note. 9 out of 10 for getting the stuff to the customer quick, 0 out of 10 for listening to the customers request!

Next one: delivery, they said they would call with one hour notice, as I was not yet moved in to the house, I got a call from the driver saying I’m at your house...where are you!

Part 3: When I arrived they had stacked the boxes at the door, I let them in and said this lot in the ding room, other in main bedroom...oh no...they deliver within 6 steps of the front door...PERIOD...this they said was a catalog order and them’s the rules!

Four for more: of course no set up, all furniture comes in many boxes, they way it left the factory in China...you have to pull the cartons apart and assemble it yourself, every stick, took me 2 days in all...except!

What’s more is that you end up with a mountain of cardboard and polystyrene to dispose of...these are BIG boxes

Firth..and should be final. The driver made a point of showing me the label with the number to call if anything is missing or busted (do they know something?), well the dining table was trashed, so call them up, and eventually someone says they will order a new one, should be 7-10 business days.

One final point, new table arrived, with minor damage, which I fixed myself rather than wait...and the delivery crew had no instructions about taking away the busted table. Call this number they helpfully said as the scooted out of the house.

It make me wonder what if some average person bought this stuff, I consider myself quite handy...I build things for a living, so it was a no brainer, but it took several hours and a lot of work, my parents would have collapsed at the effort, JCP should make this much clearer. God forbid someone ordered a nice new table for Thanksgiving...as it was their turn to host the entire family!

Bottom line, go to a real furniture store, pay to have them deliver and set up.
