PepBoys/ automotive repais PepBoys
On 7/31/06 I took my car [2000 Malibu] to PepBoys in Los Angeles b/c my engine light was on. When I got there, I requested that my car be diagnosed and have my oil changed. The service rep called me a few hours to tell me that I needed an EGR pipe and valve and also a tune up and 4 new tires [which I agreed I needed to replace]. The service rep told me that he would give me a discount if I got all of the suggested work done. I agreed and was told my car would be ready by 3 pm that day.
When I arrived at 3 pm, my car was not ready. The new service guy I spoke to basically told me I was an idiot for even thinking my car was ready and couldn’t believe I was told that my car would be ready by 3 pm. I was told that my car would be ready by 7 pm.
I came back at 8:45, so as to give them extra time to fix my car. When I came back, my car was in the same place I saw it at 3 pm. They could not find my paperwork or keys. I went to inspect my car and discovered that they had yet to put on my new tires and do the alignment. I was assured that all parts and automotive repairs had been completed. I was told there was a miscommunication between the two bays. I had to wait until 11 pm to receive my car.
On 8/2 I tried to clean my windows and discovered that I had no washer fluid. I called PepBoys and was told that this should have been filled when I had my oil change. I then explained that I didn’t think my oil had been changed. I was told that it probably was, but that they forgot to fill up my washer fluid.
On the morning of 8/3 I checked my oil and discovered that it had not been changed. I drove to PepBoys and another service man confirmed that the oil had not been changed, no tune up, no new spark plugs and no new EGR pipe. I left my car and requested that the mgr. call me when he got in.
I called 4 times during the day, and the mgr. never called me. In the afternoon, another service man called me to tell me that my car was ready and that my bill was $309. I asked to speak to a manager and was told that he was not in. A few minutes later, the service man I saw that morning called to tell me that there would be no charge for today. I requested a discount or refund and was told that he would need to speak with the manager.
I called 2 hours later to speak with a manager and was on hold for several minutes. While on hold, someone from PebBoys called me on my other line and told me that they would refund the $356 I spent on parts and labor on 7/31 and charge me $309 today plus 10% off. I told them that I would not pay for any labor based on their fraud – which he agreed to accept. I asked why the manager never called me today, and was told that he was very busy and in meetings.
I was very busy on 7/31/06 and 8/30/06 – b/c I was driving back and forth to PepBoys and waiting for a straight answer.
I really can’t believe what sleaze balls these guys are. Danger to anyone who continues to go to them.
