AirTel / Postpaid connection at Bangalore

Hi,

I am a software engineer in Bangalore and own a cell phone with Airtel connection.

I applied for migration of my Airtel prepaid number to post paid. I applied it on 11 Aug 2006. and the Airtel agent told me that, I will get a SMS or a call on my prepaid number saying my SIM will be deactivated and after some time my new SIM which was given by Airtel agent will be activated soon.

On Friday, 25 Aug 2006, my prepaid SIM got deactivated without any intimation to me. I inserted my new SIM and it didn't work. I mean it said 'SIM registration failed'. I called up customer care. They said it will be activate in 24 Hrs. I kept waiting till Sunday, 27 Aug 2006. But my SIM was still not active.

and on Sunday I again called up customer care. It was not like a reopening of the old issue. It was fresh complaint (I don't understand why I need to explain everything from scratch. Can't they open the old complaint and update the status?) Then they said it will take 4 days (which is too long a time for silly activation of a SIM card). I asked for a exact day, they said Tuesday. OK fine I kept waiting till Tuesday. But the SIM is not active even on Tuesday 29 Aug.

I do not know how many calls I missed already. My problem is not that. I can even live without a mobile. But, they claim so much about the brand and they charge so much to the customer. Why can't they provide a good service. and a supportive customer care. and there is no way that I can escalate this issue. If I ask them to escalate then they just keep me on hold and escape. I will have to keep listening to their adds or that bloody music.

Why cannot Airtel be penalised for lack of service?
