For the past 18 months I have been renting an apartment in Columbia, SC from Windsor Shores.

 

During that time maintenance was always slow to resolve issues- even when issues were given to them in writing.

 

One reoccuring complaint we made was that under the cabinets next to the dishwasher was always damp and musty/moldy smelling. Windsor Shores sent a maintenance man around to fix the problem; his solution was to spray fabreeze on the mold.

 

Appox. one month before we moved out the dishwasher stopped working. Over the course of two weeks we made calls to the office to fix our dishwasher. After two weeks with no response from the office we sent them a formal complaint in writing. One week after sending the letter (three weeks after initially reporting the problem) they sent someone around to fix the problem. He said it was fixed, but the dishwasher still would physically not work. We sent another letter- one week later they came back and acknowledged the problem and said the dishwasher needed to be replaced.

 

At first the maintenance man said he wasn't going to replace it because we were getting ready to move out in a few weeks anyway- we insisted it be replaced- we had been doing dishes by hand for 4 weeks at this point were really busy.

 

They took the dishwasher out and said they couldn't replace it because it was moldy behind the dishwasher they had to replace the cabinets and run a dehumidifier for a few days. Note, we had complained about the mold our entire time at the apartment and got no response besides an old man spraying febreeze under our counters.

 

We lived with our entire kitchen contents piled high on our counters and in our living room for approx. the last two weeks of our stay whilst the appartment did no apparant action besides run a dehumidifier.

 

Upon leaving we hired professional cleaners to clean the apartment. We got a very good rating on our walk out inspection. Only broken blinds (cheap vinyl- $2-$3 at Target) and slight stains on the carpet was noted.

 

We had asked the manager for compensation for our time without a dishwasher. We were told she would look into it.

 

 

Not only did we not get any compensation- weeks later we were told we would not get our deposit back either. Interestingly despite our almost-spotless apartment and almost perfect walk-thru inspection we had charges for cleaning and maintenance equalling EXACTLY $150, the cost of our deposit.

 

 

 

We believe that the apartment never intended to replace our dishwasher until after we left. We believe that the cleaning and maintenance costs are incorrect, and just a means at extracting as much money from us as possible and they would have taken our deposit regardless. We believe that we should be compensated for our last month without a dishwasher.

 

For these reasons we are adding our complaint to complaints.com I shall not be satisfied until Windsor Shores refunds us our money.

 

I would not recommend this apartment complex to anyone looking in the Columbia area. In my eyes they are unprofessional, immoral, and corrupt.
