Lillian Vernon - appauling customer service

Lillian Vernon Online - I've shopped with them for years, they used to have excellent customer service, but now have outsourced their customer service to the Phillipines. Now you can't get any customer service... just unanswered questions and unintelligable responses. The corporate sales department in Virginia claims that most companies are outsourcing customer service, as if poor behavior entitles other to do the same. This buyer will never shop Lillian Vernon again.

I also was scammed into their "Rewards Program" (some "reward" to be deceptively charged). I called and said I didn't recall signing up for the program. As other have said, the operator explained that checking the checkbox for $10 off and entering my email signed me up for the program. I asked for a cancellation and a refund on the amount charged to my account. Surprisingly, the operator quickly and willingly cancelled my membership and credited my account. No questions asked. I'll keep an eye on my account to make sure I'm not charged again!

I made a purchase at LillianVernon.com for Christmas 2008 and I am surprised to see recurring $14.95 charges from Lillian Vernon. The most surprising part is that I finally connected monthly charges of $10 to Lillian Vernon's Reservations Rewards program; charges that date back from last Christmas 2007 and I never could figure out where they were coming from!

"For a monthly fee of about $10, customers can enroll in the Reservation Rewards program, which offers discounts at restaurants and stores in their towns in addition to travel protections such as roadside assistance and hotel overbooking insurance. Other programs include identity-theft protection and discounts at online retailers."

The e-mail offers sent to customers are misleading to the person who simply wants to find out how to save $ on their next order or simply wants to learn about the above offer. The fine print apparently says after a 30 day trial, which you have to have to receive a discount, you will be charged monthly, for the above benefits. The misleading part is that you automatically agree to the above when you click the link in the e-mail to learn about the savings.

I just cancelled both of these "rewards programs" and am waiting to see if the money they scammed from me will indeed be refunded.

Buyer beware indeed! Too bad for these deceptive practices because I liked shopping for personalized gifts here.

Here are the telephone numbers:

Lillian Vernon Rewards 800-434-2043

Reservation Rewards 800-732-7031

The reps were actually very helpful-as if they are used now used to canceling these accounts and refunding money to angry customers. Either way, two of three I spoke with were professional in every way. If you feel misled, as I did, call and ask for a refund.

I keep reading about people this is happening to. Has anyone gotten this resolved? How did you get them to stop charging your credit or bank card?
