On a recent vacation we happened to pass by an outlet complex, and saw a Brookstone outlet store. They had a few dozen featured clock radios there marked down substantially, describing them as demos and returns. We purchased one and brought it home. It wasn’t plugged in 15 minutes and the LED display started to malfunction to the point that we would never use this in our kitchen. I have trouble believing that a company that prides itself on quality would allow this to be sold without checking it. There is no way this was a demo that went unnoticed. I’d like to believe this was not a deliberate attempt to sell a known piece of junk, but they clearly did not check this out. Now that I am 300 miles from the outlet, they offer me the chance to mail it back for a store credit. Their costumer service Department essentially told me I bought it at my own risk.

This was not a tag sale or flea market. This is a retailer with a reputation for quality. This unit was expected to be tested in house and sold as a working unit. Mistakes happen but I was quite disappointed with this. If I sold something that I knew didn’t work I’d be afraid of Consumer complaints.
