Best Buy - Computer Service Best Buy in Crystal Lake, Illinois is by far the worst store I have ever shopped in. In fact, it's so bad, we will no longer shop there. Their customer service is the worst we've ever encountered.
We purchased yet another desktop computer from them, and it's now been in for service 4 times. We've had other computers in for service more than a reasonable number of times because of components failing and they continually replaced them (video cards, motherboards, etc.) with sub-standard parts that fail in a short period of time. They also tell you that to get a back up of the data on the hard drive, it's done by the Service Center. Then, when you request this, the unit may have already been sent for service and they tell you, no this is done at the store. They follow this up with a statement that they don't guarantee the data back up, but they'll do it for $80.00.
These people have more excuses for any issue that arises. We've purchased well over $15K over the past 10 years and they are so pushy with the extended maintenance policies, but when it comes to getting service, you could wait till hell froze over for the unit to be returned. And, on more than one occasion, the item wasn't serviced completely and had to go back to the service center.
We also purchased a laptop with wireless service, but nobody in the store could demonstrate how to set it up. You have to pay a fee for that information. And, if you happen to purchase an extended maintenance plan and you get "in-home" service, don't waste your time calling them, because they don't give the proper information over the phone.
Don't try calling the store to talk to anyone in computer service because half the time they can't be bothered to answer the phone. Their answer to that is the customers at the counter need to be taken care of first. So, even though you are a customer, if you call on the phone, you aren't as important.
