MDG COMPUTERS - LAPTOP PURCHASE

MDG COMPUTERS - LAPTOP PURCHASE

MDG COMPUTERS located on St. Jean Boulevard in Dollard Des Ormeaux Quebec

Canada. Here is the note that outlines my specific problem with MDG

COMPUTERS and their lack of after sale customer service. Never again will I

buy another computer product from MDG.

I recently purchased a laptop computer from MDG and sent this detailed note

to "Email User" twice and have heard nothing from them. Every time I

call customer service I get the same line "let me find that memo for you and

have the person responsible call you back" (have called them four times)

since July 11th when I sent the first note. I went to their St. Jean

boulevard branch in Dollard Des Ormeaux, Quebec to purchase an APTONBOOK

8000 and received the same line as others have received "we are out of stock

we don't even have a floor model to show you but we have an ACER TravelMate

which is exactly the same". Anyways to date nobody has called me back.

Below is the memo I sent on July 11th 2006 explaining the issues I have with

the store. The Acer is nice but certainly does not have everything that the

APTON BOOK 8000 offers whether good or bad. Maybe going this route I can at

least get someone from MDG to at least care.

"I would like to make a complaint about the poor service that has happened

since I purchase a Laptop from your St. Jean Boulevard store in Dollard Des

Ormeaux Quebec On July 05, 2006. I went there to purchase an APTONBOOK 8000.

I was told that they did not have any of the 2005 or 2006 in stock but they

could sell me an ACER TravelMate 4202WLMI which the salesman Mark Krasney

said was exactly the same as the 8000. They did not even have an APTONBOOK

8000 on display that I could compare with the ACER. So I took his word for

it and agreed to purchase this machine. I wanted XP Professional instead of

the Home software I also wanted 2 -1 GIG of DDR2 dual Channel memory

installed which he charged me $1480,21 taxes in. I told him I would pick up

the Machine on Thursday July 6, 2006. When I left the store I noticed that

he had not included the memory upgrade on the work order. He told me that it

would cost an additional $250.69 tax included for the memory as he said he

could not resell the old memory and that I had to pay full price for the 2

GIG. I agreed to the additional price. I picked up the ACER laptop Thursday

afternoon. When I got home late Thursday I realized that he had not left the

old memory which I expected to have in the shipping box. I called back on

Friday morning and asked to speak to Mark Krasney and was told that he no

longer worked for MDG. I asked to speak to the Manager and was told that he

was the former manager. I asked at that time to speak to someone of

authority in that store and was given a technician who had recently started

to work there. I was told that they did not know who the new manager was but

they could get an area manager to give me a call. The store told me that he

would call me during the day which was Friday July 07 2006. The store called

me late Friday and told me this manager (don't have a name) would call me on

Saturday but I was not available and asked that he contact me on Monday July

10th. I waited all day for his call. I was told by the store that he would

call me which did not happen. Now we are Tuesday July 11th and I am still

waiting for his call. Now that I have come to my senses and decided to do a

little more investigation, checking out your web site besides receiving the

Microsoft bundle I should have also received COREL WORDPERFECT OFFICE X3 and

the MICROSOFT game bundle. I also looked at the APTONBOOK 8000 on your

Website and it would appear that the Acer 4202 is not the same. If indeed

your WEBSITE is correct it would appear that the 8000 has more bells and

whistles such as a web cam it looks like it has an S-VIDEO port and a port

that you can connect a digital camera. A true multimedia laptop. This is not

the first time I have had issues with this store. I bought a desktop a

couple of years ago (P4) and had to go back and get the License sticker and

CD for Microsoft Windows XP because they forgot to affix the license to the

machine and give me a copy of the software. The first time I said every one

is human and can make mistakes. But the second time I begin to wonder. I

would appreciate someone calling me and not the store because I am through

dealing with them and the so-called area manger who seems does not want to

ensure customer satisfaction. MDG HEAD OFFICE needs to explain to me why the

ACER and the APTONBOOK 8000 is not the same and if it is then why your

website is showing misleading specifications. I checked the ACER manufacture

date and it was made in 2006 so it is not an old model. I purchased this the

ACER Laptop in good faith, faith in the salesperson/Manager telling me the

correct facts and I expected that MDG representatives act in complete

honesty. I certainly have my doubts. I may be reached at 514-683-4140. I do

not want an E-mail explanation. I want someone from Head Office to call me.

If MDG does not resolve this matter to my satisfaction, I will have no

alternative but to seek the full refund purchase of this Laptop. I must also

ask what happened to the satisfaction or your money back within thirty

days. A company this large I expect nothing else. This would show that MDG

is a respectable operation and a good Corporate citizen..

I had a similar experience with MDG in Toronto, ON in January of 2007. I went into the store looking for an Aptonbook with 1.6GHZ Dual Core, 2 GB of DDR2, Geforce GO 7600 256MB. The customer service rep told me the Vision Book had exactly the same specs, but just had a different design. Liking the Visionbook's size and sleekness I agreed. I paid roughly $2000 after taxes. When I got home I found out the laptop had an intel media accelerator video card instead of the GeForce card. So I brought it back and the manager claimed the rep had made a mistake and that AptonBooks were more expensive but offered to give me the AptonBook I originally wanted for $50 extra. I took the offer. Soon after I found out that I only had 1 GB of memory. I called customer service and they claimed that their offer was either you get 1GB of fast DDR2 memory or 2GB of the slower DDR memory, even though it did not say this in the brochure.

In short MDG are scam artists, the products they sell aren't that bad. But they're overpriced and they'll always try and screw the ignorant.
