shoes/terrible customer service

Target, Poway California

10 days ago, I purchased a pair of sneakers for my son. They were falling apart already. So this morning, I went to the Target in Poway, where they were purchased and tried to return them. I was told their policy was they had to be "new and unused". I asked the girl, how can I know if the shoes will last, unless they are worn. Also, they were only 10 days old, I had the receipt! she then told me the policy again. I asked for a store manager...

He arrived and looked at the shoes. He then said to me, "these look much older than 10 days old" I was shocked! I asked him if he was accusing me of lying, I had the receipt! Then he looks at me and says, "Mam, are you looking for a confrontation here?" Are you kidding me? I'm the one trying to return shoes, with a receipt and he asks me if I'm confrontational?!! I aked him how Target can sell a product that can't even last 10 days?! He then proceeded again to tell me about the store policy... I then asked him if they were willing to lose a customer over something so minor as a $20 pair of shoes. I also told them that I wanted to cancel my Target card. "You'll have to call our 800-number to do that, if you really feel that way" - like it's really gonna do anything! He was such an ass about the whole thing! I was so pissed and so shocked by their behavior to me, that I walked out (without the shoes, so no I have no proof). UGH.

I may be a little fish in this big consumer pond, but why give someone such terrible customer service?
